Communications PR and Marketing Manager
APPLICATION PACK
Background
Leeds Mencap is an ambitious charity with our sights set on helping the future to be better for people with
learning disabilities, their families and carers. We are in the early stages of a capital appeal for £1.2m to fund
the creation of a new centre in East End Park. The centre will be about more than Leeds Mencap. It will be a
centre for our own services but also a hub for other groups supporting people with learning disabilities. The
centre will also be used in many different ways by the local community and community groups.
This project offers the potential for transformation in many people’s lives and it is hugely exciting.
In order to achieve our ambition we need an experienced and ambitious Communications, PR and Marketing
Manager:

You will be experienced in a wide range of communications, PR and marketing techniques through a
broad range of channels including traditional above and below the line, offline and online, digital and
social media.

Your drive and sense of purpose will equip you for leading and managing the organisation’s
communications, PR and marketing strategy through a busy period of change and growth, hitting the
ground running to raise our profile and support the fundraising team with the capital appeal.

A creative thinker, you’ll be used to developing innovative campaigns and ideas and maximising small
budgets.

You’ll have experience and be comfortable working with, building and developing positive working
relationships with journalists, businesses, clients and colleagues.

In addition to delivering a communications, PR and marketing strategy for the capital appeal you will
have the ability to develop and implement systems and processes to enable the organisation to manage
its communications both internally and externally in years to come.
In order to respond to this challenge you will need to be knowledgeable, experienced, both able to think
strategically but also be hands-on, have strong analytical and evaluation skills and be competent at managing
budgets. It goes without saying that you’ll have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
