Post Ref: KU00000276 Marketing & Communications Manager (Engagement & Partnerships) Job Description School/RI/Directorate: Directorate of Marketing & Communications: operationally based within the Directorate of Engagement & Partnerships Responsible to: Director of Marketing & Communications (MAC) – line management Head of Strategy Delivery & Operations (DEP) – operational management Responsible for: Communications Officer (DEP) Grade: Grade: 8 Incremental Scale: Yes Starting Salary: £40,523 Hours: Full time Role Summary: The role will create, lead and deliver marketing and communications campaigns to support the work of the Directorate of Engagement & Partnerships. This will include marketing and communication campaigns to support: (1) Business, public sector and charity engagement with the University’s research and educational missions; (2) Our role as a key civic leader and major economic anchor institution; (3) Keele University Science & Innovation Park (4) Our institutional Advancement strategy driving the development of UK and international alumni relations, philanthropic fundraising and development (5) The delivery of transformational projects aimed at stimulating local economic growth. The role will be part of the Directorate of Marketing and Communications but will be operationally based within the Directorate of Engagement and Partnerships. This will provide the benefits of full integration between corporate marketing and communications and that of DEP and will provide a professional support network for the post holder. 05 May 2017 Main Duties and Responsibilities: Strategic, Marketing and External Communications i. Create, lead and deliver an overall marketing and communications strategy and its component campaigns, to support both the strategic leadership and service roles of the Directorate of Engagement & Partnerships. ii. To work with and take direction from the Director of DEP to develop marketing and communications strategy and plans as they relate to DEP's areas of responsibility, whilst also working with the Director of MAC to ensure synergy with wider university marketing and communications strategy. iii. To work with the wider team to develop the marketing and communications strategy for the Keele Business Gateway as a key strategy for promoting the recruitment of businesses into collaborative research, innovation and educational partnerships with Schools and Research Institutes. iv. To provide the marketing and communications expertise to support the University’s Advancement strategy for alumni relations and philanthropic fundraising, supported by a dedicated Communications Officer role. This will include the development of persuasive cases for support targeting philanthropic fundraising. v. To work with the Science and Innovation Park team to support high levels of occupancy by companies, sustainable partnerships between tenants and the University, the campus as a key site for inward investment and to promote the value of the park to the University, existing and prospective partners and the wider local, regional and national political landscape. vi. Working in partnership with the Directorate of Marketing and Communications, develop the positioning and promotion of the University and its research and educational missions as key attributes of its roles as a key civic leader, economic anchor institution and positive contributor to the economic, societal, cultural and health economy locally, nationally and internationally. This will include the production, promotion and dissemination of timely reports alongside working with the corporate PR and Communications team to develop media and wider PR campaigns to raise the profile of the University and its role as a partner of choice. vii. To support major business engagement projects via effective marketing and communications expertise, measured by successful business recruitment into a range of major capacity building projects for university-business engagement. This will include student and graduate placements, consultancy, innovation leadership development, physical co-location, research collaboration, continuing professional development and the wider use of the University estate, property (including intellectual property) and its infrastructure. This will include liaison with relevant funding bodies and marketing and communications support for the Smart Energy Network Demonstrator. viii. General marketing and communications development, targeting and use of effective print and digital publications to support specific campaigns and objectives. 05 May 2017 ix. Overall responsibility for the content of the University’s web presence relating to engagement and partnerships and our associated social media channels. x. Working with the Events & Conference team and colleagues in DEP to develop and deliver a programme of events to raise the University profile in target stakeholder groups and to explore the potential for commercial income generation (e.g. attracting conferences of national professional bodies). xi. Working in collaboration with the wider MAC team, develop effective relationships with local and national media as an integral part of any marketing and communications campaign. xii. To build strategic relationships across a wide range of external and internal stakeholders to enable the delivery of all aspects of the role. xiii. Take overall responsibility for the use of sponsorship as a component of any/all marketing and communications campaigns and the overall strategy (e.g. Sponsorship partnership with the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce). xiv. Ensure full compliance with all rules, regulations and laws pertaining to marketing and communications (e.g. compliance with EU publicity guidance, telephone preference services etc). xv. Lead on the development and use of internal communications channels to underpin the strategic role of the Directorate and its provision of services relating to research support, academic governance, clinical trials, ethics, research grant costing, publications & data management. Team Work i. Work as part of the Directorate of Marketing and Communications based within and dedicated to supporting the work of the Directorate of Engagement and Partnerships. ii. Work seamlessly with the Heads of Partnership Development, Head of Advancement and Science and Innovation Park team to deliver marketing and communications support to enable them to deliver the objectives they have responsibility for delivering. iii. Work with the wider group of Heads of Service within the Directorate to ensure the service provision of the Directorate if effectively communicated internally. iv. To input to the work of MAC by representing the interest of DEP and vice-versa. v. Provide periodic reports to the board of Keele University Business Park Limited on the marketing and communications activities supporting inward investment to the development site. 05 May 2017 Resource Management Responsibility for a £50k+ non-payroll budget in addition to providing support to Schools and Research Institutions in their strategic use of marketing budgets forming part of major business engagement projects being delivered in partnership with the directorate. This will also include dedicated marketing and communications budgets associated with Keele University Science and Business Park Limited. Personal Development / Performance i. Be happy to both develop and be measured against clear performance measures testing the objectives of any specific marketing and communications campaign and the overall strategy in this area. iv. To undertake evening and weekend work and travel away from home with overnight stays from time to time as required. v.
