SUMS UP! Year 3 KO Reference b Describe and extend simple number sequences (including odd/even numbers, counting on or back in ones or tens from any two-digit number, and so on). Write down the next three numbers in this list : 8 10 12 14 What are the next three numbers in this list : 8 18 28 Key Words Odd, even, counting on, counting back, ones, tens, number sequence. Practical Activities Lots of practical work here – use of number fans, digit cards, whiteboards to reinforce skills. Number fans – Show me ….. Is it odd or even? Let’s count on for the next three numbers ….. Digit Cards – “Let’s make odd numbers!” “Let’s make even numbers!” Whiteboards – To show number sequences, odd numbers, even numbers etc. Counting around the group – on/back. (n.b. start with different numbers, not always 1. For example, “let’s start counting together 19, 20 ……). 81927075 Written Activities Making Number Lines – e.g. to show 1, 11, 21, 31, 41, 51, 61, 71, 81, 91, 101 (Extend to beyond 100 if appropriate). (Start from different numbers, for example 74). Extend – use bigger number squares; 200 square. Colouring patterns on a 100 square – for example colour 2, 4, 6, 8 …. Or 10, 20, 30 ….. Writing numbers – smallest first or biggest first. Completing number patterns Worksheet – odd/even numbers Games Blast Off! - counting down from a given number to one, then the class shouts out ‘Blast off!’ Skipping games – counting in 10s, 5s, 2s etc. What is the highest number we can reach? Tennis – divide the group in half, play tennis by bouncing numbers back and to (for example, count in 10s, each group takes turns to serve). Extend – count over 100.
