Cooperacion Internacional is an NGO that offers young people the opportunity to engage in
socially inspired volunteer projects They aim to provide education and training centring on a
commitment to humanitarian concerns and values. The main objective is to promote volunteering
and social participation. This is achieved through multiple outlets but is mainly enacted by young
people, the beneficiaries being the many people in need due to poverty or other social issues.
The main objectives at Cooperacion Internacional are; social participation, which they see as
creating channels for social participation, and solving problems through volunteerism, dialogue
and cultural exchange. Secondly, social awareness: Raising public awareness with regards to
accountability toward the poverty and underdevelopment due to which millions of human beings
suffer globally.
Further significant objectives include; commitment, helping people in their own development and
supporting local initiatives that address social needs. Finally, solidarity: Contributing to European
unity and aid, helping people in less developed areas.
Position:
Two Positions are available to carry out a 13-week internship at Cooperacion Internacional. They
are interested in people from a range of backgrounds but mainly those who have a keen interest
in international development and working within NGOs. Also they are interested in people who
have experience teaching English.
One of the positions is available for a basic Spanish speaker and the second position is for
someone with a good knowledge of Spanish i.e. of an intermediate level.
Tasks:
 The positions consist of two roles; both of which will be taken up by both participants.
 Role one is working at a food bank. This includes organising and delivering food packages
to poor and elderly people from the local area who come to the food bank. This position is
where it would be handy to have a knowledge of Spanish as it will help with interaction
with the local people.
 Role two is a teaching role. This would be a couple of days a week where interns go to a
different site to teach English classes to mostly teenagers from disadvantaged
backgrounds.
