ISAAC ALBENIZ
(1860 – 1909)
Spanish pianist and composer best known for his piano works based on folk music idioms.
However, many of his pieces are amongst the most important for classical guitar.
He was a child prodigy who first performed at the age of four. His concert career began
at the age of nine, when he toured Spain. Later, he toured America and Europe.
Albéniz's influence on the future of Spanish music was profound. His activities as
conductor, performer and composer significantly raised the profile of Spanish music
abroad and encouraged Spanish music and musicians in his own country.
He died at age 48 of a kidney disorder.
