Electricity and Magnetism
http://video.mit.edu/watch/the-wonders-of-electricity-and-magnetism-9964/
1. Name the 2 things the speaker
always carried with him
2. Can life exist without electricity?
Why or why not?
3. How is magnetism inseparable from
electricity?
4. Describe the historical importance
of amber
Magnetism
The attraction of a magnet for another object
Attraction
When two magnets or magnetic
objects are close to each other,
there is a force that attracts the
poles together
Repulsion
When two magnetic objects have like
poles facing each other, the magnetic
force pushes them apart.
Magnetic Pole
The area of a magnet where the effect is the
strongest. The magnetic field is strongest at
the poles of a magnet. It allows magnets to be
attracted to each other without touching
 Magnets may be cut in half, but each piece
maintains its magnetic properties
