Name:________________________ Date:______________ Biology Protein Synthesis Story DIRECTIONS 1. Cut the paragraphs to make separate strips. 2. Place the papers in the correct order. 3. Tape each paragraph in order in your biology notebook The messenger (mRNA) leaves the executive suite (nucleus) carrying the encoded (transcribed) information to the factory (ribosome, rRNA). The messenger (mRNA) stands at the factory (ribosome, rRNA) door to oversee the production (translation) of the secret weapon (polypeptide; protein). And so Bioland can live in peace and harmony (maintain homeostasis) since it can continually replace the self-destructing secret weapon (polypeptide; protein). Long Live Bioland! The messenger (mRNA) directs the delivery of the parts (amino acids) in the proper order and their hook up in the factory (ribosome, rRNA) to make the secret weapon (polypeptide, protein). Bioland and the Secret Weapon The workers (tRNA) leave the factory (ribosome, rRNA) after delivering their parts (amino acids). They go back to the countryside (cytoplasm) to get more parts (amino acids). The master plans (DNA) are kept in the executive suite (nucleus). For security reasons, the master plans (DNA) cannot leave the executive suite. Our story... Bioland has developed the ultimate secret weapon. It will protect everyone from invaders that seek to weaken or destroy its people. The only hitch...the secret weapon self-destructs every 24 hours. A new weapon must be made every day to ensure its success! Meanwhile, the workers (tRNA) go to the countryside (cytoplasm) to pick up the parts (amino acids) needed to make the secret weapon (polypeptide; protein). They bring the parts to the door of the factory (ribosome; rRNA). The master plans (DNA) are encoded (transcribed) and given to the messenger (mRNA) to deliver and oversee the production (translation) of the secret weapon (polypeptide, protein).
