Functional analysis of the regulatory region of a zein gene in
Functional analysis of the regulatory region of a zein gene in

... The transcription of zein genes in maize is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated. The 5' regulatory region of many zein genes contains two promoters, P1 and P2, lying approximately 1000 bases apart. The promoter/enhancer activity of various fragments of the two promoter regions of the zein ...

... The answer to these questions, as Thomas Hunt Morgan first realized in 1910, is yes. Morgan’s research on fruit flies led him to the principle of linkage. After identifying more than 50 Drosophila genes, Morgan discovered that many of them appeared to be “linked” together in ways that, at first glan ...

We further present extensive tissue expression studies and demonstrate that, in addition to testis, which shows the highest expression, the gene is expressed at low levels in prostate, female breast, placenta, ovary, and thymus. Moreover, we examined TSKS expression in human t ...

Developing a CRISPR/Cas9 System for Volvox Carteri

... targeted mutations. The Cas9/CRISPR system is simpler and more precise than previously developed genome editing systems. The high precision is due to the CRISPR associated (Cas) endonuclease’s ability to bind DNA via associated guide RNAs. Cas endonucleases can delete or add bases to the genome, whi ...

... The advent of a new technology offers the opportunity to look at an old problem from a new and different point of view. It might confirm, confute or add new hypotheses. Indeed, since their arrival at the end of the 1980s [5,6], microarrays have been used to explore the chromosomal organization at a ...

Long non-coding RNA

Long non-coding RNAs (long ncRNAs, lncRNA) are non-protein coding transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides. This somewhat arbitrary limit distinguishes long ncRNAs from small regulatory RNAs such as microRNAs (miRNAs), short interfering RNAs (siRNAs), Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs), small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), and other short RNAs.
