Workshop on Geometry and Physics 2017 Feb 25-Mar 1, 2017, Sun Yat-sen University Purpose: This workshop consists of two relatively independent parts. As one part, there is one mini-course, aiming to enlarge the scope of graduate students as well as advance undergraduate students. As the other part, there are a few conference talks, aiming to bring together researchers to communicate on recent progress in algebraic/symplectic geometry, mathematical physics and related topics. In contrast to the usual workshop, we encourage the speaker to talk more about the background and the aim/difficulty on what he/she is doing. The first 20 minutes of each conference talk should be acceptable to general audience. We also encourage the general participants NOT to attend all the conferences talks, but attend a few talks or part of some talks which are of great interest to themselves. For the technical part of less interest, some audience may leave freely, even though there is no break. As a general criteria to us, the more like an informal discussion, the better the conference talk is. There were workshops on "Mirror Symmetry and Quantum Field Theory" of similar style organized by Qin LI (SUSTC). This workshop is a continuation of exploring a good way to bring potential collaborations among the participants. Organizers: HU, Jianxun (Sun Yat-sen University) LI, Changzheng (Sun Yat-sen University) Speakers: BAE, Hanwool KE, Huazhong LEUNG, Naichung Conan SHENG, Mao (Seoul National University, Korea) (Sun Yat-sen University, China) (Chinese University of Hong Kong) (University of Science and Technology of China) WU, Siye (National Tsing Hua University) YOUNG, Matthew (Chinese University of Hong Kong) (*: The talk by Prof. Siye Wu is also the 1st GAGP seminar @ SYSU.) Program: February 25 (Saturday) Morning: Joint activities among (graduate) students from Chinese University of Hong Kong and Sun Yat-sen University For students who are interested in attending it, please contact with Mr. Chen Song <scrainyday AT icloud.com> for more details. Afternoon: Excursion. Wu Free discussions Title and Abstracts: A mini-course on representation theory (by N.C. Leung) Reference: Brocker & tom Dieck, Representation of compact Lie groups (Graduate students and advance undergraduate students are extremely encouraged to attend this mini-course!) Kodaira Vanishing Theorem (by Mao Sheng) Wrapped Floer homology of cotangent fibers and quantum cohomology of G/B (by H. Bae) Global aspects of quantum gauge theories (by Siye Wu) Abstract: We revisit a few aspects of gauge theories in four dimensions related to the topology of principal gauge bundles. We found that the usual concept of discrete electric and magnetic fluxes of 't Hooft requires a modification when the gauge group is an arbitrary compact semisimple Lie group and when the spatial slice is an arbitrary compact 3-manifold. We investigate quantum gauge theory, S-duality, and dimensional reduction in light of this adjustment. Wall-crossing formulas and scattering diagrams (by Matthew Young) Abstract: Scattering diagrams were introduced by Kontsevich and Soibelman in their study of the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow approach to mirror symmetry. After a short overview of the theory of scattering diagrams, I will explain their connection to wall-crossing formulas, both numerical and cohomological. New flops and quantum invariance Ke) (by Huazhong Abstract: A conjecture of Y. Ruan and C.-L. Wang states that smooth projective varieties related by flops have isomorphic quantum cohomology rings after analytic continuation. A first step to prove this conjecture is to find “canonical flops” to which every flop can be deformed. I will present new constructions of flops whose centers are flag varieties. A recent result of D. Li shows that these flops lie in the list of “canonical flops” in dimension less than six. I will also discusss the strategy and difficulty to prove the conjecture of Ruan-Wang for these flops.
