Sentence components 1-subject: It is a noun or a pronoun which comes at beginning of the sentence. Nouns: the teacher, the man, the table……..etc. Subject pronouns: I, we, they, you, he, she, it 2- Verbs: they are of two types; a- main verbs: they have meaning when they are alone. Main verbs are also classified into two types, transitive verbs such as (write, send, give, teach….etc.), and intransitive verbs such as (sleep, fly, sing, play…..etc.). b-Auxiliary: they have grammatical meanings; they are: -Verb to do: do, does, did, doing, and done. -Verb to have: has, have, and had. - Verb to be: is, am, are, was, were, be, being, and been. 3- Complement: It is an adjective or a noun which describes a subject or an object. Ex: -He is nice (adj.) -He is a teacher (noun) 4-Object: It is a noun or pronoun which comes after the main verb. Object pronouns are me, us, them, you, him, her, and it. - I saw a man object noun I saw him object pronoun 5-Adverbs: they are of three types: a- place: at school, in a library b- time: now, at the end of movie c- manner: adjective + ly happy + ly happily Sentence Patterns There are seven basic patterns: 1- SV The story ended (intransitive verb) 2- SVO ---------- The teacher explained (transitive verb) the lesson. 3- SVC --- This book is useful (subject complement) They are workers (subject complement) 4- SVA -- 5- SVOiOd -- She is working in a company (adverb) He gave me i a book d 6- SVOC -- 7-SVOA -- She is putting her book on the shelf. They made him happy (object complement)
