Short Description
On the most fundamental level quantum mechanics is still not well understood. Yet
quantum mechanics has already played a vital role in our daily life and will be even
more useful if we continue to explore how we can actively control the dynamics of
quantum systems. The direction of “coherent control of quantum dynamics”
advocates the usage of quantum coherence to manipulate quantum systems for good
and to explore new frontiers in quantum physics research. Applications of coherent
control include fundamental understanding of atom and molecular systems,
development of novel spectroscopy tools, as well as quantum information processing
that relies upon our ability to steer the quantum evolution of a quantum computer.
Currently the research emphasis is placed on (a) the control of quantum state transfer,
entanglement propagation, and quantum signal amplification in spin chain systems;
(b) the control of quantum transport in nanoscale devices such as waveguides, and (c)
the dynamics of Bose-Einstein condensates in the presence of external driving fields.
