What Is The Carrying Capacity Of The
Ecosystem?
What Factors Affect The Carrying
Capacity Of The Ecosystem?
What are some types of Ecosystems?
What Is The Ecosystem?
.A system that includes all living organisms(Biotic
Factors)in an area as well as it's physical
Environment(Abiotic Factors)functioning together as a
unit
.An ecosystem is made up of plants, animals,
microorganisms, soil, rocks, minerals, water sources, and
the local atmosphere interacting with one another.
What Is Carrying Capacity?
.largest number of individuals of
a particular species that can
survive over long periods of
time in a given environment,
this level depends on the effect
of the limiting factors
What Is The Carrying Capacity Of The Ecosystem?
*Every Ecosystem has a
different carrying capacity, but
what determines the carrying
capacity is the factors that
affect that certain Ecosystem.
What Factors Affect The Carrying Capacity Of The Ecosystem?
.Humans can affect the carrying capacity of ecosystems by taking
or adding something to the environment. Such as natural
resources and chemicals. These can greatly affect the
environment, thus greatly affecting the animals in the
environment
.Other factors that affect the carrying capacity of a ecosystem is
Food availability, water, environmental conditions,
space,disease, competition, and predator-prey relationships.
What are some types of Ecosystems?
* Riverine ecosystem
· River ecosystem
· Stream ecosystem
· Spring ecosystem
* Lacustrine ecosystem
· Pond ecosystem
· Lake ecosystem
* Marine ecosystem
· Coastal water ecosystem
· Estuary ecosystem
· Lagoon ecosystem
· Coral reef ecosystem
· Soft-bottom continental shelf ecosystem
· Upwelling continental shelf ecosystem
· Open ocean ecosystem
· Polar ocean ecosystem (the Arctic and Antarctic oceans)
* Boundary ecosystem (where one body of water meets another
(estuaries and lagoons); where a body of water meets land (wetlands);
where one land area meets another land type)
* Soil ecosystem
* Polar ecosystem (in polar regions, such as polar barrens and tundra)
* Mountain ecosystem
* Agroecosystem (farms, livestock production systems)
* Forest ecosystem
* Grassland ecosystem
* Urban ecosystem (cities, suburbs)
These are all parts of
different Ecosystems!!
Fun Facts On Ecosystems
*Similar ecosystems are defined as biomes.
*According to the Millenium Ecosystem Assessment and
Greenfacts.org, the past 50 years or so have seen a rapid
transformation in ecosystem
*Animals, plants and other living organisms that are located in a
specific location make up an ecosystem
*Not only is the old species in trouble, the other organisms that
are dependent on that species must find new sources of food as
well.
*Changes have been especially rapid in the last 50 years and today
the fastest changes are taking place in developing countries.
*Many animal and plant populations have declined in numbers,
geographical spread, or both
*a quarter of mammal species are currently threatened by
extinction
*Human activity has caused between 50 and 1000 times more
extinctions in the last 100 years than would have happened due
to natural processes
