What does a Sociologist do?
A sociologist studies society and social behavior by:
examining groups like:
 organizations
 cultures
 social institutions
 processes that develop when people interact and work together.
Education/Training Requirements
 You must have at least have a Bachelor’s Degree in order to work in social services, oncampus sociologists positions, health care, or public institutions.
 If you have Credentials, Master’s Degree, or a Ph.D, you would most likely be able to teach
Sociology at Universities and Colleges
 People with Master’s in Sociology or Ph.Ds can also be sociologists in Business Organizations
and the Government.
Outlooks for the career
Sociology is one of the most popular fields of study, due to studying behavior and attitudes
that the people possess. The Employment change rate has made little to no changes at all.
Salary and Benefits
Salary:
 Lowest: $36,200 annually
 Median: $73,760 annually
 Highest: $145,250 annually
Benefits: As a sociologist, your thoughts are being valued in the workplace
because you are researching about behavior and social factors like
community groups and organizations. If you are a sociologist working at
a college campus, you may get some students who are “Sociology
Majors” asking you a lot about careers as sociologists.
Working Conditions
 Most sociologists would work in research organizations, colleges and universities, and the
state or local government.
 They would mostly work full-time during business days (Mon-Fri).
Sociologists usually work in:
 An office
 Work outside of the office to do hands-on research by using interviews, observations, or
presenting results
 Boardrooms where other colleagues can collaborate on research projects.
Personal Opinion of career field
 This career enables you to develop a comprehensive and open mind
to different type of people, data, behavior, and issues that surround
the work force and daily lives.
 If you're willing to study the human behavior, interact, and organize
individuals and groups then this is a good fit.
 Sociologist has a variety of occupations that link to this field therefore,
majoring in this field doesn't stop you from other professions such as,
health, crime, families, population, and etc.

Luis says: I would like to persue this career because in class, we discussed about our true
colors and I found out that my true color is green, which means that I am analytical, calm,
investigative, and logical. These are characteristics for a typical sociologist. That’s why I
would see myself persuing this career.
Luisa says: I would be interested in this career because I like to interact with people as a
group and as well as individually . Not only this but getting to know them physically and
internally to undertand their background and what they want to achive in the long run.
The possible majors include: Sociology,
Criminal Justice, Business, Economics,
Natural Science, Law, Literature, Child Development,
Social Work and History.
