Title of the research topic: Environmentally friendly organophosphorus chemistry
Description of the research topic as three sub-topics:
1: The use of the microwave technique in the synthesis of P-esters and P-oxides
Consultant: Dr. Nóra Zs. Kiss Assistant Professor
The purpose is to synthesize phosphoric-, phosphonic and phosphinic ester, as well as phosphine
oxide intermediates by MW-assisted direct esterification, alkylating esterification, T3P-mediated
esterification, or by the P-ligand-free Hirao P–C coupling methodology. The different methods should
be compared and optimized.
2. Extension of the Kabachnik–Fields reaction; new applications
Consultant: Dr. Erika Bálint Scientific Worker
The goal is to elaborate a practical preparation of secondary phosphine oxides (SPOs), and to
evaluate their tautomeric equilibria. The SPOs may be excellent starting materials in mono and bis
phospha-Mannich condensations that may be novel ligands in Pt or Pd complexes after
deoxygenation. The latter species are potential catalysts.
3: P-heterocyclic chemistry: synthesis and utilization
Consultant: Tamara Kovács (after her defending the PhD degree)
P-heterocycles will be synthesized, and their deoxygenation and refunctionalization will be studied
using silanes and borane as the reagents. The deoxygenations will be investigated in comparison with
those of alicyclic derivatives. The phosphines and phosphine-boranes may be P-ligands or their
precursors in transition metal complexes.
