Characteristics of Living Life • All living things are made of cells • Either Eukaryotic or Prokaryotic Plant and Animal Bacteria Cellular Organization • Unicellular- organisms made of one cell • Multicellularorganisms made of many cells • All cells have parts that are made of the same molecules and chemicals. Responds to Surroundings • Sensitivity- respond to stimuli • ex: plants grow towards the sun or an animal runs from a predator Growth & Development • Growth- change over lifetime Maintain Themselves • Homeostasis- stable internal environment • ex: control over the amount of fluids, salts, hormones, body temperature Reproduction • Reproduction- sexual or asexual All Living Things Need Energy! • Eating things (Heterotrophs) or Photosynthesis (Autotrophs) Adapting • Adaptation- becoming specially suited to a particular environment over time Needs of Living Things • • • • Water Food Living Space Stable Internal Conditions (Homeostasis) Multicellular Living Parts • • • • • • • Cells Tissues Organs Organ Systems or Body Systems Organism Populations Communities Cells • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URUJ D5NEXC8&nohtml5=False • https://youtu.be/gFuEo2ccTPA Tissues • http://www.exploringnature.org/graphics/te aching_aids/Tissue_identification.pdf • https://www.smm.org/tissues/ Plant Tissues Vs.
