Title: Physics of gauge field and topology in spintronics, graphene, and topological insulators Speaker: Seng Ghee Tan 1. Data Storage Institute, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) Singapore 2. Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS) 3. Computational Nanoelectronics and Nano-device Laboratory, ECE, NUS, Singapore Abstracts We present an overview of gauge fields associated with spin transport and dynamics, focusing on their origin and physical consequences. Important topics, such as the geometric gauge fields associated with adiabatic quantum evolution, their “forceful” effects, and their topological implications are discussed. We would seize the opportunity to study the ubiquitous application of this theory in “spin” or “spin like” systems like ferromagnet (FM), metal-FM interface, graphene, and topological insulators. The aim of this talk is to provide an intuitive and pedagogical insight into the physics of gauge and topology in the modern fields of nanoscale condensed matter system and devices.
