Health Maintenance: Using Sensory Modulation Techniques when Dealing with Intense Emotions
Date: ___6/10/14______________________
Group Leader: Susan
Program Area: _Adolescent___________
Desired Outcomes of the group:
Each group member will commit to using sensory modulation strategies for health maintenance when they feel intense emotions during their daily
activities.
Goals of the group: Each group member will:
- Identify personal triggers for intense emotions
- Identify how they typically react to their intense emotions
- Explore different sensory modulation strategies
- Identify which sensory strategies they could use for emotional regulation that they believe will help
Supplies and equipment needed for group:
- Ball (for warm-up)

Discuss about
Intense Emotions
1. The person with ball will
throw it to someone in the
group and say one
positive thing about that
person
2. The person receiving the
compliment will then
throw the ball to another
person and say a positive
thing about him or her.
3. Repeat until everyone has
had the ball
1. Discuss what intense
emotions are
2. Provide an example of
intense emotions
3. Ask the group to identify
and role play their
personal triggers and how
they would typically react.
4. Demonstrate sensory
modulation techniques
and explain how they can
be used when dealing with
intense emotions.
5. Have the group practice
the techniques
6. Ask when they can use the
techniques in their daily
lives
7. Facilitate members
agreeing to use them at
