Post Details Job Title: Job Family Last Updated: 02/08/2016 Marketing & Communications Manager Professional Services Responsible to Head of Commercial Services Responsible for (Staff) 3 members of the Marketing Team Level 4 Job Purpose Statement The post holder is responsible for creating and implementing the Marketing Plan for Surrey Sports Park in support of the Sports Park’s overall strategy. Leading the delivery of innovative and effective marketing and communications campaigns for Surrey Sports Park, the post holder manages a team of 3 reports and is responsible for the successful delivery of integrated multi-channel marketing activities for all the sporting properties of the Sports Park, including Team Surrey and three professional sport franchises The post holder is also a source of marketing expertise for all Sports Park departments. Key Responsibilities This document is not designed to be a list of all tasks undertaken but an outline record of the main responsibilities (5 to 8 maximum) and should be read in conjunction with the accompanying Job Purpose. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. The creation, in conjunction with the Head of Commercial, of the Marketing & Communications Strategy for Surrey Sports Park which supports the delivery of the overall Sports Park Strategy The creation, management and implementation of the Marketing Plan to support the delivery of all revenues within the Sports Park business plan through appropriate marketing campaigns. This specifically includes creating ticket sales campaigns to deliver budgeted ticket revenues for all three franchises and the marketing of all of the adult and junior activities related both to the franchises and to all other Sports Park programmes The creation, management and implementation of a Marketing Communications Plan (and within this a Content Generation Plan) covering all print and digital channels including the websites, e-mail and social media outputs for all SSP properties including all three franchises Brand guardian for all of the Surrey Sports Park brands including all of the sports franchises and all the Park’s other owned properties Oversee media relations and PR/ communications outputs for Surrey Sports Park including the management and coordination of all franchise-related press and PR for local, UK and international media including liaising over media activity with NGBs, professional athletes and teams as required Lead the marketing team in all areas of its activities, including liaising with external creative agencies where appropriate, resulting in the development and implementation of marketing campaigns and marketing materials which respond to briefs from the relevant departments Coordinating all marketing requirements for sponsors across all three franchises, including liaising with sponsors where required Control of marketing budgets for Surrey Sports Park ensuring that spend and marketing effectiveness are monitored and that marketing campaigns are managed in line with both budget and the Marketing Plan. N.B. The above list is not exhaustive. Problem Solving, Accountability and Dimensions of the role The post holder has specific responsibility within a clearly defined area of operation for supporting a range of new and ongoing marketing and communications projects, campaigns and events, alongside direct responsibility for content generation and providing routine administrative support to the Head of Commercial. The post holder will, with the support of colleagues from the wider Commercial Department, encourage a pro-active commercial culture, with an emphasis on targeted digital marketing methods and a preference for measurable, content-led campaigns and initiatives. The post holder will be a confident face-to-face communicator able to develop positive working relationships with a range of key stakeholders, including Surrey Sports Park colleagues, University of Surrey staff and students, creative agencies, commercial partners and the media. The post holder is expected to provide regular feedback and reports on their progress against tasks and objectives, and take a pro-active approach bringing new ideas and opportunities to the table. Once established in the role the post holder will require little supervision and will escalate issues which fall outside of the remit of the role to the Head of Commercial Services. They will have the latitude within their daily/weekly work routine to organise and prioritise their own work, to ensure that key deadlines and objectives are met. This will include successfully managing any conflicting demands, possessing a basic awareness of the options available and being able to make effective and appropriate decisions, referring only to their line manager where appropriate. There is a need in this role for the post holder to create effective policies (sometimes from scratch) which can be applied consistently to recurring events such as around franchise matchdays or events taking place at the Sports Park and that where issues exist the post holder should play an effective role in determining a suitable course of action. The post holder may occasionally experience more unusual queries or issues, where there is no formal guidance and they will need to interpret past precedents and apply their judgement to determine an appropriate course of action or as needed to refer the matter to their line manager for guidance/resolution. The post holder may be required to suggest improvements or developments to current working practices in consultation with their manager, in order to ensure the smooth running of the service they provide. This post involves both direct line management and budgetary responsibility. Person Specification This section describes the sum total of knowledge, experience & competence required by the post holder that is necessary for standard acceptable performance in carrying out this role. Qualifications and Professional Memberships Degree, HND, NVQ 4 qualified or equivalent in relevant subject/relevant formal training, plus a number of years experience E Or: Broad vocational experience, acquired through a combination of job-related vocational training and considerable on-the-job experience, demonstrating development through involvement in a series of progressively more demanding relevant work/roles.
