The Roman Empire

They had big feast.
The feast always look so delicious and good.
If you were a starter you would have jellyfish and eggs.
then you would have dormice stuffed with nuts and
fried honey.
• There would also be bread soaked in milk, then fried in
honey.
• They also had pine seeds and pork.
A VILLAGE IN ITALY
• Today , Italy is a country in Europe
• The country was shape like a boot
• The boot sticks out in to the Mediterranean sea
• Rome is next to the Tiber river.
• In 700 B.C, Greece was becoming a powerful country.
• Rome, however was just a small group of mud nut with
straw roofs.
• There were seven hills were dotted with small village.
• The village grew and grew, soon they were all part of
one big city, that a city of seven hills was called
Etruscans took over Rome.
PROBLEMS IN ROMAN
REPUBLIC
• The war made a lot of problems for Roman
• When the romans won a war it would make
problems for the Roman people because the
slaves where taking their jobs
• The city was falling apart
• The leaders where getting richer and the People
where getting poorer
• The slavers wonted freedom so in 73 B.C. they
started army of 100,000 slaves, they fougnt for
two years
• They lost the war and 6,000 slaves died
A powerful roman general
• Even with these problems at home ,the Romans
tried to take over more and more land
• They sent generals out to distant lands
• Each general had his own army
• One general ,named Julius Caesar, had taken
over a land called Gaul
• He had many followers
• The Roman government thought he might be too
powerful
Julius Caesar Fights Rome
• For three years Caesar and his army
fought over generals for control of Rome
• In 46 B.C. he won
• He made himself head of all the Romans
• His friends decided to kill him
• On March 15,44 B.C. ,they stabbed Julius
Caesar
• They did not go back to being a republic
after Caesars death
Daily Life In Rome
• Between the year of 27 B.C. and A.D 180, the Roman
Emperor had a time called ‘Roman Peace’
• The Roman Emperors wanted to keep the Roman
people happy
• They put games and lots of circuses for men to enjoy,
the woman were not allowed to go
• People in Rome ate their meals lying down
• On most days people ate bead, eggs, wine, olives, and
some people had chicken and meat
• The Romans loved going to the baths, these were big
pools that very one can use
• Rome was a big city, and it had many of the problems
are big cities have today
• There was lots of sickness and crimes
• Fires were a big problem; too, parts of Rome were
always burning down
The Christian Religion Is Born
• Many Religion were practiced in Rome, The emperor
didn’t mind this too much as long as people also
respected the Roman gods
• There were Jews living in Rome, The Jews were the first
people to believe in the gods
• They also believed that god was going to send them a
messenger
• Then a baby named Jesus was born
• When he grow up he start teaching his ideas.
• Some Jews believed he was the messenger sent by
god, they called him Christ.
• The followers of Jesus became known as Christians.
The Christians gain followers
• After jesus died, people carried his teaching across the
Roman Empire.
• many Jews and people of other religions became
Christians.
• Sometimes the Romans thought the Christians kept too
much to themselves, also they did not worship the gods.
• Then in A.D, 307, a man named Constantine became
the emperor of Rome, one night he dreamed that he saw
across in the sky
• Otto thought it was the cross of Christ, he dreamed that
if he carried that across into battle, he would win.

Historians say that the Roman empire fell in the year
A.D 476.
By “fell” they mean that Romans last their power in the
world, but actually Rome didn’t fall in one year.
The problem began many years earlier.
People from the north began attacking Rome, the
Romans had to make their army much bigger to protect
themselves.
lots of people were out of work, the empire grew weaker
and weaker.
Finally, it gave into the attackers from the north.

The Romans gave lots of ideas to the world before they
fell from power.
They were great builders.
They built bridges, Stadiums and aqueducts
Aqueducts carry water from the mountains to the city.
The Romans built roads that are still in use today.
The Romans were also good at making laws.
Many of our ideas about laws came from the Romans.
