6th GRADE STUDENT SAMPLE
Mr. Streit’s NOTE: Please note that the questions this student responded to may be
very different then the student generated questions your class came up with. This
should only serve as a sample. Do not plagiarize this former student’s hard work in any
form.
Romans, lend me your ears. I, like many citizens, wonder: is the
government necessary for the protection of people in society? No, they are not!
The Senate takes their time to make decisions even when we are threatened,
when our lives are in danger. They do not understand the fears and needs of the
common man. They are more concerned with who they can bribe for the most
votes. Meanwhile, the streets erupt in riots and our enemies are trying to
invade our borders.
Fellow countrymen, hear me! Romans need someone who can make
decisions quickly in times of crisis like now. Romans need someone who will
restore order and expand our territory. Romans need someone who will treat his
people with dignity. Romans needs a decisive, fair, and strong leader.
I, Julius Caesar, am whom Rome needs. I fought in several wars and
won. I served as governor of the province of Spain. I was elected as consul. I
was part of the First Triumvirate. Experience is the teacher of all things. I have
lived long enough both in years and in accomplishments. Trust me, my dear
friends, I know how to make Rome prosperous.
Who here does not want to own land? I will redistribute land to farm
among those in need so all Romans can prosper, so all Romans can have a job.
Who here does not want to be safe? I will create a police force to maintain
order and provide security for all Roman citizens, Plebeians and Patricians alike.
I will also protect Rome against our enemies and lead our army to fight against
those who threaten our peace, our land, our prosperity! I will reform the tax
system, relieve debts, distribute bonuses to my loyal troops and money to every
Roman citizen.
Romans, tell me: who here does not want to do better? I will place a
learned man in charge of Rome's library, and will lay plans for an increase in
government involvement in Rome's public education. I will open the Senate so it
represents Romans as a whole, not only those privileged ones. Roman women,
you will not need to be placed under the legal control of your husband or your
father. You will be able to have more freedom. Be a queen in your house!
I will resurrect Carthage and Corinth as Rome’s colonies so they, once
again, rise to be great trading centers and increase our wealth. I will create better
government in territories governed by Rome, including Judea. I will go to Africa
and pursue Pompey, while there I hope to increase our trade in the
Mediterranean by allying with the Egyptians. I will give citizenship to those who
fought bravely with us in the war, to those who provided outstanding service to
the Roman republic. I will pardon our enemies, help them assimilate into the
Roman ways. I will create alliances with our opponents instead of butchering
them and inciting more hatred towards us, Roman people.
Rome not only will have me, but it will also have upstanding Romans as
trusted advisors like Mark Antony and Marcus Brutus. I want to govern with the
support of the Senate and the people of Rome.
My friends, have I not proven my worth? Let us accept my leadership as a
sign from the Gods.
I WILL COME
I WILL SEE
I WILL CONQUER
I WILL MAKE ROME PROSPEROUS!
