Cell Membrane Hydrophilic Head and Hydrophobic Tail Fluid Mosaic Model Transport Diffusion is the movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration through the semi permeable cell membrane. The cell does not need to use energy. Diffusion Osmosis is the diffusion of water from and area of high concentration to and area of low concentration through the semi permeable cell membrane. Osmosis Active Transport is the movement of particles from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration through the semi permeable cell membrane. The cell does need to use energy. The energy is in the form of ATP. Active Transport Classification The Binomial Nomenclature system was developed by Carolus Linnaeus. It has seven categories of classification Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species Organisms are placed in the categories mainly based on structure. The categories show evolutionary relationships among organisms. Kingdom is the broadest category and Species is the most specific. Organism names are written Genus and species where the Genus is always capitalized and the species is lower case. Examples Felis leo When given a series of names the mostly closely related organisms have the same genus. Members of the same species are able to mate and create offspring. Example Felis leo Homo sapien Cannis lupine Felis domestica Felis leo and Felis domestica are the most closely related. They are both cats. Be able to use and create a dichotomous key Example
