Purpose of the job
The person appointed will be part of a dedicated team responsible for the British Business
Bank’s (BBB) delivery of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (NPIF), a £400m Fund of
Funds providing debt and equity in the North West, Yorkshire & the Humber and Tees Valley
Main duties
The key aspects of the role will involve:
•
Managing and updating the NPIF Financial Model
•
Participating in the NPIF procurement process including reviewing and analysing
proposals from debt and equity fund managers
•
Critically appraising proposals including in-depth analysis of track records, team
dynamics and other aspects.
•
Supporting investment proposals through internal and external investment
processes, e.g. preparing documents and attending Steering Group and Strategic
Oversight Board meetings;
•
Working with specialist legal advisors to scrutinise investment legal
documentation to ensure consistency with the commercial terms agreed;
•
Working with Risk and Compliance to ensure that risks are fully understood and
that appropriate mitigations are in place
•
Working with the MI Team to prepare reports and analysis of investments and
fund activities and dealing with specific queries from within the team or from
stakeholders and preparing analysis and findings;
•
Preparing and participating in presentations for a range of BBB stakeholders
•
Dealing with matters arising with investments, analysing issues, developing
action plans, communicating with interested parties and resolving disputes; and
•
Be prepared to participate in similar work for other regional funding
programmes.
The on-going role will also include:
•
Monitoring the portfolio of investments, including regular review of management
information, and taking action where necessary to ensure the best possible outcome of these
investments for the fund;
•
Work on the range of fund management and equity investment activities in support of
BBB’s objectives.
Knowledge and experience
•
Experience of working on EU funding programmes or of public / private sector
partnerships to deliver financial instruments is desirable.
•
The role requires that the candidate should have a good commercial understanding of
small businesses operations and finances or of debt or venture fund investing in order to
contribute effectively towards the following activities:
•
Specific experience of working in a fund management, investment banking, corporate
finance or commercial lending environment is desirable.
•
Financial and Investment Analysis

Negotiation of legal agreements

Financial Modelling
Internal and external stakeholders
•
Working with specialist legal advisors to scrutinise investment legal

Qualifications
A numerate graduate with a good degree in
an Analytical discipline (e.g. Economics,
Accounting, Law, Engineering or Science).
A professional legal or accounting
qualification or investment management
certificate is desirable.
