 Graduate Trainee position - Marketing Intern
Works with: Marketing Director, Marketing Manager and Marketing Co-ordinator
Outline
This is an opportunity to gain experience within the busy marketing department of the London
Philharmonic Orchestra and to develop a thorough understanding of the role of the department and its
key areas of work within the organisation. You will be able to observe and participate in many of the
marketing campaign activities that take place during the concert season, including e-marketing and
social media campaigns, direct mail, print production and distribution, audience analysis, promotional
offers, etc and will also have the opportunity to see how an in-house ticketing operation is
successfully run. The role will also give the you experience in basic office management, giving you
the chance to develop valuable general administrative and marketing skills.
The Marketing Intern will work primarily with the Marketing Department, providing support to the Box
Office and also taking part in campaigns for specific concerts in London, Brighton and Eastbourne.
The Intern will be invited to observe and participate in departmental meetings to enable them to fully
understand the function of the marketing department and its activities. In addition you will have the
opportunity to view other areas of the Orchestra's work by attending fundraising events, education
workshops, concert rehearsals and concerts etc.
As the Marketing Intern you will have the chance to:
• Gain experience of working with the Marketing team on research projects and marketing
campaigns
• Take part in tactical marketing activities including, but not limited to copywriting, organising
mailings, social media campaigns, creating e-bulletins, marketing research and maintaining
databases.
• Provide administrative support to the Marketing department and wider team, gaining an
understanding of the daily running of a busy arts administration office. This may include tasks
such as greeting visitors to the office, post distribution, taking customer queries and booking
couriers
• In conjunction with the Marketing team, be involved with concert-specific promotions and
assist with the administration of the London Philharmonic Orchestra's student campaign,
NOISE.
• Learn how to write relevant marketing copy for specific audiences and marketing platforms
• Learn the basics of proof-reading and assist all with proof-reading tasks
• Receive training in the in-house box office system (Tessitura) and deal with incoming box
office calls
• Receive training Adobe InDesign software to facilitate simple in-house print production
• Learn how to make changes and update content on the LPO website using Joomla content
management system
• Assist in answering incoming calls to London Philharmonic Orchestra main line efficiently and
professionally and redirect callers to appropriate departments or individuals accordingly
• Receive all enquirers and guests of the Orchestra, notify the person they are visiting, look
after guests on arrival

• Desire to learn about the orchestral and arts administration world
• Some knowledge of / interest in classical music
• Professional telephone manner and demeanour
• A 9.30am—5.30pm presence in the office, although flexibility will be offered where possible.

Practicalities
This placement is available as a full or part-time position. Placements are voluntary and unpaid, but a
weekly or monthly travelcard (up to zone 3) can be expensed to the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
We will also cover up to £5 daily lunch expenses. We ask for a 6-month commitment, although we will
consider shorter or longer periods according to individual circumstances.
