Core hours are Monday Friday 10am 6pm but additional
hours may be required from time to time
Salary:
£40,000 + per annum (dependent on experience)
Duration:
Fixed Term Contract (9 month maternity cover with a 3
month possible extension)
The Old Vic
The Old Vic has been a landmark theatre in London and the home of great productions for
nearly 200 years. In its dazzling history, The Old Vic has been home not only to great
acting but also to dance, musical extravaganzas, vaudeville and spectacle. This diverse
heritage is a b
forward, as his goal is to program invigorating seasons which are, by turns, surprising,
smart, adventurous and fun.
As important as our work on stage, our dynamic outreach programme Old Vic New Voices
OVNV we support young actors, directors, writers and producers to learn their craft; we
invest in ground breaking programmes in schools to raise aspiration among young people;
and we use theatre skills to work with charities and local organisations to enable those in
the community to participate in what we do.
The Team
The Marketing team includes the Marketing Director, Marketing Manager, Senior
Marketing Executive and Marketing Assistant as well as the Senior Graphic Designer,
Graphic Designer and Digital Manager.
Purpose of Job
 To take lead responsibility for marketing, sales and communications at The Old Vic
in order to increase audiences, hit targets and promote The Old Vic brand to its
fullest.
 To provide detailed analysis and insight on campaigns to help inform future
strategy.
 To increase online audiences by embracing digital innovations in line with the
artistic vision, with the assistance of the Digital Manager.
 To conduct regular and ongoing audience research to be shared across the
organisation to inform decision making.
 The Marketing Director is a senior management position and the post holder will
need to attend the Senior Management Group meeting each week and provide
weekly sales reports.
Areas of Responsibility
Communications
 In line with the new artistic vision and the organisation business plan, to deliver the
marketing and audience development strategy for the theatre.

Artistic Director.
 To manage internal and external design teams in their maintenance and development of
The Old Vic brand, ensuring a powerful and cohesive visual representation across all
activities.
 To oversee the creation of all marketing collateral for productions, the theatre and other
related activities from concept to implementation.
 To liaise with the Production team regarding contractual terms relating to publicity
materials.
 To oversee the day to day running of marketing campaigns and to oversee other
members of the team in the day to day management of The Old Vic website.
 To initiate further development of The Old Vic website, working with external
consultants as required.


Sales, Analysis and Research
 To monitor and evaluate sales against targets to inform decision making on marketing
campaigns and spend.
 To conduct audience research and analysis in collaboration with any external providers
to ensure we have the fullest insight into our audience segments at all times.
 To identify the audience development needs within the organisation and to implement
an effective strategy for audience growth.
Finance and Budgets
 To work with the Production and Finance Departments, setting and preparing
marketing budgets and cash flow for the productions and season.
 To manage the marketing overheads, website and digital filming budgets.
 To share responsibility of the Box Office budget with the Head of Theatre Operations.
Box Office
 To work with the Head of Theatre Operations, Box Office Manager and Box Office
Systems and Database Manager on strategic planning to continually improve Box Office
operations.
 To work with the team above and explore how the use of new technologies related to
ticketing could be further developed within the organisation.
 To oversee the setup of productions for on sale.
 To provide the Box office with specific information on each production giving sufficient
knowledge to sell productions efficiently and informatively.
 To project manage pricing reviews in conjunction with the Executive, Box Office
Manager and the Production team.
 To be responsible for liaising with the Production department on setting pricing for
productions and where appropriate, other relevant revenue streams.

Person Specification
The post holder must be able to demonstrate the following:
Essential










Proven experience at a senior level in marketing, sales, press and brand development.
Self motivated.
Able to manage concurrent projects to tight deadlines, with a calm approach under
pressure.
Knowledge of box office and ticketing systems with some experience in reporting.
Experience of line management of external consultants, freelancers, agencies and
marketing, box office and design teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and confidence in a creative
environment.
Excellent planning and organisational skills.
A strong visual flair and an exacting attention to detail.
The ability to work collaboratively within small and large teams, managing multiple
opinions and leading decision making.
Proven experience of setting and managing budgets.
Desirable



Experience of working in an Arts organisation.
A qualification in Theatre/ Marketing.
An understanding of the ticketing system used at The Old Vic, Tessitura.
