Winchester gave me that choice as it offered so many interesting combinations. “Coming to the Open Day was an eye-opener because I had just come to hear about the English degree but while I was here I saw what Sociology had to offer and I decided that I would apply to do both. “So far the course has exceeded my expectations – I really enjoy the variety of teaching formats used in Sociology – there is a mix of lecture, seminar, group work, debates and presentations which all help to enhance the learning process. The module on the Sociology of Family has been particularly interesting – it has stimulated a lot of discussion in class because it is personal and emotive as everyone has their own ideas about families. “As a mature student, I was initially worried that coming to university would be daunting but Winchester is such a friendly place – I have friends of all ages and I have developed a strong support network. Eventually I would like to perhaps teach at secondary level or post-16, maybe even go into research but right now I am just enjoying the whole experience of university life.” Sue Warwick Qualification route: Access to HE Diploma. 2 05883_BA_Sociology.indd 2 www.winchester.ac.uk 25/08/2016 15:27 BA (Hons) Sociology In addition to the programme offering core aspects of undergraduate study in • Human Rights, Social Activism and Public Sociology listed and modules may be subject to change.
