ALLELE
CHROMOSOMES
Alternative form of a gene.
Threadlike, gene-carrying structure found in the
nucleus. Each chromosome consists of one very
long DNA molecule and associated proteins.
DOMINANT
Describes a trait that covers over, or
dominates, another form of that trait.
GENOTYPE
Genetic makeup of an
organism
HETEROZYGOUS
Organism that has two
different alleles for a trait
HOMOZYGOUS
Organism that has two
identical alleles for a trait
PHENOTYPE
Organism's physical
appearance, or visible traits.
PROBABILITY
Number describing how likely
it is that an event will occur
PUNNETT SQUARE
Chart showing all possible combinations
of alleles that can result from a genetic
cross
RECESSIVE
Describes a trait that is covered over, or
dominated, by another form of that trait
and seems to disappear.
