What materials can become
magnetic?
What materials can become
magnetic?
Iron
Nickel
Cobalt
Neodymium
What materials are NOT
magnetic?
What materials are NOT
magnetic?
Copper
Aluminum
Silver
What is the cause of magnetic force?
What is the cause of magnetic force?
Domains of electrons are all
lined up in the same direction
and move at same speed.
How do the poles react?
Show where the magnets
are attracted and repelled.
Explain the following:
• Amazing Magnet
Bar Magnet Magnetic Field
Magnetic Field of 2 magnets attracting
Magnetic Field of 2 magnets repelling
Where are magnetic fields strongest?
Strongest Force at Magnetic Poles
What happens if a magnet is cut
apart?
Magnets break apart to make smaller
magnets
What is the relationship between
magnetic field and magnetic force?
The bigger the field,
the ______________the force.
The bigger the field,
the stronger the force.
Do all magnets have the same
magnetic field?
How is the Earth like a magnet?
1.Which magnetic pole is
closest to the geographic
North Pole?
2.Is the magnetic field
stronger near the middle
of the Earth (Mexico) or at
the bottom of the Earth
(Antarctica)? Explain.
How is the Earth like a magnet?
1.Which magnetic pole is
closest to the geographic
North Pole?
South magnetic
1.Is the magnetic field
stronger near the middle
of the Earth (Mexico) or at
the bottom of the Earth
(Antarctica)? Explain.
How are auroras created?
5 Facts on the Auroras
Earth’s Magnetic Field protects us
from solar radiation.
What happens to make a temporary
magnet?
A magnet has to align all the
electron domains in the iron
nail so that the iron nail turns
into a magnet.
2 ways to make temporary magnets
1) Use another magnet
2) Use electricity
Possible?
Could a person become magnetic?
The girl with magnetic hands
Tuesday, September 14th, 2010
A Serbian schoolgirl has amazed
medics with her astonishing
magnetic hands.
Ten-year-old Jelena Momcilov has been picking
up cutlery, coins and even metal furniture by
just touching them at her family home in
Zeljusa, since she first discovered her powers
five years ago.
Now experts at nearby Nis University have urged
scientists to investigate, reports CEN.
“I’d say this is a kind of unknown bio-magnetism.
More experts would need to join me and
research what this is all about,” said
department head Pavle Premovic.
