CONTEXT:
The Shepherd Centre is a world-leading charity providing services to children who are deaf
or have a hearing loss, to enable them to develop spoken language and go on to achieve
their potential in life. Children completing our early intervention program typically have the
same spoken language as other children their age and more than 90% go on to enter
mainstream school. Our aim is to be the best in the world in terms of the standard of our
clinical programs; the outcomes being achieved by the children; the efficiency of our
operations; and our ability to connect people with our cause.
The services and the research structure of The Shepherd Centre will be growing rapidly to
meet the needs of the many children who currently aren’t enrolled in an appropriate
program. Our aim is to support these children to achieve the same outstanding results as
our current children, through extended and new services.

ROLE:
The Direct Marketing Executive is responsible for day-to-day implementation of direct mail
campaigns including appeals to the existing donors, newsletters, surveys and direct mail
acquisition campaigns. The role also includes providing administrative support to the Direct
Marketing Manager.
DIRECT REPORTS:


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management of Direct Marketing campaigns

Implementing direct mail campaigns with the support of Direct Marketing Manager.

Relationship management of mail houses and print suppliers.

Monitoring
and
coordinating
the
production
of
promotional
materials
and
merchandise.

Ensure to record and maintain essential communications, case stories, images and
video footage.

Ensure all marketing materials are in line with brand guidelines.

Provide assistance to the Direct Marketing Manager with the campaign data briefs

Provide assistance to the Direct Marketing Manager with budget planning and
management

Work closely with Clinical team on obtaining case studies and stories used in direct
marketing campaigns

Implement email direct marketing campaigns as required

Report on campaign results in a timely manner

Marketing and Fundraising Support

Respond to fundraising enquiries and issues and make sure they are referred to
appropriate staff if required.

Respond to donor queries about direct marketing materials and campaigns and
record queries in the data base

Assist in the development and documentation of policies and processes.

Provide marketing support and administration assistance to the Direct Marketing
manager.

Work with the rest of Fundraising team on maximising opportunities to acquire new
donors and increase their life time value
KEY PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES:



Direct Marketing income targets are achieved annually
Acquisition and Retention of donors is achieved based on annual KPIs
All Appeals are produced on time
FLEXIBLE WORKING:
The particular areas of flexibility that apply to this role are:
 Location: this position is based in Newtown
 Working away from a centre: Work in other centres maybe required from time to
time.
 Times of working: 76 hours per fortnight (as per PPL05 Human Resources policy)

required, work activities, staff development, administrative matters
Financial decisions: as per Policy GOV04 Delegations of Authority
Employment decisions: as per Policy GOV04 Delegations of Authority; and Policy

Actively support the success of other staff and teams within The Shepherd
Centre, with proactive support of:
1. Clinical Programs, with a conscious focus on ensuring that all interactions

2. Fundraising and Communications, with positive participation in
fundraising activities when requested; and
3. Operations, by ensuring timely update of systems and recordkeeping, as
relevant to the work undertaken.

AREAS OF COMPETENCIES AND KNOWLEDGE:



Direct Marketing Campaigns including but not limited to Direct Mail,
Telemarketing, EDM and Online
Donor Retention
Donor Acquisition

At least two years of relevant experience in Direct Marketing.

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Implementing Direct Marketing campaigns across various channels including
briefing suppliers e.g. mailhouses, agencies and printers - desirable.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and
ability to use the Internet to obtain data and reference material.

Strong database use skills

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Strong analytical skills

Ability to cope with high volumes of work and diverse activities at one time.
