UNIVERSITETET I OSLO DET MATEMATISK-NATURVITENSKAPELIGE FAKULTET Exam in MBV 4320 - Advanced Physiology and Cell Biology Day: Friday 22 February 2013 Time for exam:10.00 – 13.00 The exam includes one page Allowed aids: none Number of questions: 5 Please answer each of the questions on separate sheets of paper Check that the set of questions is complete before you start ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A PHYSIOLOGY 1) Describe the difference between the activity pattern in motor neurons innervating fast and slow muscles. 2) Describe the different mechanisms for reducing the cytosolic Ca2+-concentration back to normal after a transient elevation. When comparing the various mechanisms, Ca2+-affinity and transport (or sequestering) capacity should be emphasized. 3) What physiological problems can we expect that coral reef fishes will encounter in a near (50 – 100 years) future? B CELL BIOLOGY 4a. Which receptors are mediating phagocytosis? 4b) Explain how potential pathogens may be killed and degraded in the phagocytic pathway. 4c) Describe similarities and differences between autophagy, endocytosis and phagocytosis in terms of what cargo they transport to the lysosome. 5. Where and by which mechanisms are receptors destined for lysosomal degradation?
