Is Fever Beneficial to the Host: A Clinical Perspective
Is Fever Beneficial to the Host: A Clinical Perspective

... The association of fever with the immune response through their shared endogenous mediator, IL-1, led to the question of how these two effects of IL-1, a brain-mediated elevation in temperature and augmentation of lymphocyte activation, might be related. To test if the pyrogenic action of IL- I crea ...

Ibrutinib inhibition of Bruton protein

... The Bruton non-receptor protein-tyrosine kinase (BTK), a deficiency of which leads to X-linked agammaglobulinemia, plays a central role in B cell antigen receptor signaling. Owing to the exclusivity of this enzyme in B cells, the acronym could represent B cell tyrosine kinase. BTK is activated by the ...

Innate Type 2 Immunity Is Associated with Eosinophilic Pleural

... Recently it has been shown that innate immune cells, such as eosinophils and epithelial cells, play critical roles in inflammation beyond simply functioning to link innate and adaptive immunity. Leukemia--Chronic Lymphocytic What is cancer?

... Each human cell contains 23 pairs of chromosomes. In most cases of CLL, a change can be found in at least one of these chromosomes. Most often this change is a deletion − that is, loss of part of a chromosome. The loss of part of chromosome 13 is the most common deletion, but other chromosomes such ...

Monoclonal antibody

Monoclonal antibodies (mAb or moAb) are monospecific antibodies that are made by identical immune cells that are all clones of a unique parent cell, in contrast to polyclonal antibodies which are made from several different immune cells. Monoclonal antibodies have monovalent affinity, in that they bind to the same epitope.Given almost any substance, it is possible to produce monoclonal antibodies that specifically bind to that substance; they can then serve to detect or purify that substance. This has become an important tool in biochemistry, molecular biology and medicine. When used as medications, the non-proprietary drug name ends in -mab (see ""Nomenclature of monoclonal antibodies""), and many immunotherapy specialists use the word mab anacronymically.
