QUEST Study guide
Organic molecules
Proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, & nucleic acids (just know that these are DNA & RNA)
Notes & power point on website
Know the biological functions of ALL these molecules
Know how to test for glucose, starch, protein, lipids
Cell Membrane & Diffusion/Osmosis
Notes, graphic organizer, Skits/songs
Know what molecules use simple diffusion, what molecules use facilitated diffusion, and what
molecules use Active transport across the membrane
Be able to discuss how the cell membrane allows the cell to maintain HOMEOSTASIS (oh yeah,
you should know what this term means!)
Know the terms isotonic, hypertonic, & hypotonic- be sure to know which way water and
solutes will diffuse in each of these environments.
What is water intoxication and what goes wrong in patients suffering from this condition
Organelles –structure to function & homeostasis
Ribosomes, cell membrane, chloroplast, mitochondria, golgi apparatus, endoplasmic
reticulum (smooth & rough), nucleus
Be sure you understand and can discuss each of the structures AND functions of ALL
these organelles
Be able to discuss how ALL these organelles work together to maintain HOMEOSTASIS of
the cell and therefore the organism.
***BONUS: question about organelle diseases
Possible Essay Question
We have studied 7 organelles; cell membrane, ribosome, nucleus, chloroplast, Rough/smooth ER, golgi
apparatus, & mitochondria. If you were a plant cell and were told you had to live without one of these
organelles, which one would you choose and why?
Diffusion review on the back of this week’s schedule
Diffusion practice
