⢠The roots are the organ responsible for absorbing water, anchoring the plant and may also store food. Roots adaptations often correspond to soil type and plant needs. â A taproot is a large, main root which is usually joined to many secondary roots. The taproot provides a strong anchor and allows the plant to reach water far below the earthâs surface. Some taproots also store food, such as the carrot.
