The Healthy Bowel+ Digestion Guide
The modern lifestyle
Most of us are regularly exposed to an increasing number of potentially
toxic chemicals. These toxins may be present in our diet, water supply,
work or home environments. It is also no secret that much of the food we
eat is peppered with chemicals, insecticides, pesticides, preservatives,
colours and flavours. Processed foods are often loaded with unnecessarily
high levels of trans-fat, saturated fats and refined carbohydrates. All
of these unnatural substances have resulted in soaring rates of bowel
problems, not only in New Zealand, but also in Australia, America, Europe,
the United Kingdom and Asia. Toxins and artificial foods prevent our bodies
from performing at their optimum.
Read through the following sections to
clarify which part of your body may need
the most immediate attention
BOWELBIOTICS+
For naturally healthy bowels
Your checklist
Go through the following checklist. If you answer yes to two or more of
the following questions, you could really benefit from cleaning, feeding and
supporting your bowel and digestive system.
Do you suffer from bloating after a meal?
Do you have poor eating habits?
Do you skip meals?
Do you have skin problems?
Do you eat fatty, sugary or refined foods?
Do you have irregular bowel habits?
Do you suffer from overindulgence?
Do you have fluid retention?
Do you drink coffee more than twice daily?
Do you drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes?
Are you regularly exposed to chemicals or pollutants?
Change your lifestyle
A fresh, healthy and balanced diet works by supporting the optimum health
of various body organs such as the liver, spleen, gallbladder, bloodstream,
kidney and bowels. Detoxification is a natural, daily cleansing process used
by our body to remove toxins. These materials are eliminated through the
bowel (faeces), kidneys (urine), skin and lungs, or can be processed by
the body into harmless substances. Toxins or waste products that are not
removed can be stored in the body in fat deposits or even in our bones.
The body’s natural ability to detoxify itself properly is dependant upon body
systems functioning at an optimum level. Efficient detoxification relies on
healthy liver, kidney and intestinal function as well as our ability to remove
toxins effectively via the skin and lungs.

About the Bowels
All about the bowels
The bowel is the common name for the large intestine and comprises
the colon, rectum, and anus. The colon is a muscular tube, which
together with the small intestine forms the major part of the digestive
system. The digestive process is completed in the colon, where
water and soluble nutrients are absorbed and certain vitamins are
synthesised. The colon is also responsible for the elimination of body
wastes including those from food. In a healthy colon all this is achieved
with the help of billions of friendly resident bacteria. Many practitioners
now believe that keeping the colon healthy is crucial to our overall
health and vitality.
You are what you eat
Nutritionists and scientists are now confirming that the age-old saying
of ‘you are what you eat’ is actually the case. Our vitality is merely
a reflection of our inner health - including the health of our digestive
system.
A high-fibre diet is the first step
Fibre is important in the diet to ensure that waste material is moved
efficiently and regularly through the colon so that undigested matter
is not left for long periods in the bowel. Typically most fibre in our diet
comes from wheat bran (present in most breads and cereals) but this
is unsuitable for those who are allergic or intolerant to wheat products.
Psyllium husks are a water retentive non-wheat near-perfect fibre
source. When water is added to psyllium husks it forms a soft gel,
helping matter to move through the colon smoothly. Water retentive
fibre also encourages the presence of natural bacteria in the bowel. It is
important to remember to vary your fibre intake from different sources.
Inulin (prebiotics)
Substances such as inulin that promote the growth of beneficial
bacteria in the colon are called prebiotics. Inulins are naturallyoccurring oligosaccharides (several simple sugars linked together)
that are resistant to digestion in the stomach and intestines. They are
metabolised in the colon by bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. Inulins are
found in vegetables such as asparagus, leeks, onions, chicory roots
and garlic. Inulins also help to reduce the population of unfriendly
bacteria in the colon such as E.coli, Clostridium and Salmonella.
Probiotics
Probiotics are live microbial organisms (such as Lactobacilli and
Bifidobacteria) that populate the gut and are beneficial to health. Good
and bad bacteria are continually competing with each other in the gut
and it is now clearly recognised that maintaining a favourable balance
of good bacteria in the colon creates long-term bowel health and
overall well-being.
What is the function of good bacteria in the gut?
Bacteria in the gut (microflora) fulfill a number of important functions
for humans. These include assisting in the breakdown and absorption
of food, helping to reduce the growth of unfriendly bacteria, creating
some vitamins, supporting the immune system and reducing the
likelihood of digestive and bowel-related problems. Intakes of bad
bacteria, an improper diet, antibiotic use and the stresses and strains
of modern life can lead to an imbalance of bad bacteria in the gut. The
addition of probiotics to a balanced diet can play an important role in
helping the environment in the gut remain healthy.
Lifestream BowelBiotics+
As part of a healthy balanced diet, Lifestream BowelBiotics+ helps
to ensure regular bowel movements and maintains bowel health.
Lifestream BowelBiotics+ not only provides an incredible source
of fibre but also contains prebiotics and probiotics for maintaining
healthy intestinal bacteria. The Lifestream BowelBiotics+ formula is
presently recommended by many gastroenterologists, doctors and
natural practitioners in the UK. The natural ingredients are gentle
in action and are not absorbed by the body, making Lifestream
BowelBiotics+ suitable for regular, everyday use.
“The specific combination of fibre, prebiotics and
probiotics is far more potent when taken together”
What is so unique about the formula
of Lifestream BowelBiotics+?
The exact and specific amount of the following
3 ingredients:
1. Fibre (psyllium husks)
2. Prebiotics (inulin)
3. Probiotics (Lactobacilli & Bifidobacteria)
NO Artificial Ingredients
The unique Lifestream BowelBiotics+ formula is
100% natural and contains no artificial ingredients
of any kind. We believe it is important to use the

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES
About the Bowels
At least 1 cup (250ml) of liquid (preferably water or diluted
fruit juice) should be consumed for every heaped teaspoon
of Lifestream BowelBiotics+. It is very imprortant to ensure
adequate water is consumed. It cannot be emphasised enough
that plenty of water is not only important for healthy bowels but
also for overall well-being.
Can I use Lifestream BowelBiotics+ if I am taking
essential medications?
Due to its absorbent nature, it is recommended that Lifestream
BowelBiotics+ be taken at least 1 hour apart from medications.
If you are on medication, it is still important to seek advice from
your doctor before taking Lifestream BowelBiotics+. The probiotic
content in Lifestream BowelBiotics+ makes it suitable for use during
and following a course of antibiotics; however you should allow at
least one hour to lapse between taking antibiotics and Lifestream
BowelBiotics+.
Can I use Lifestream BowelBiotics+ if I am pregnant
or breastfeeding?
Yes. Lifestream BowelBiotics+ can be taken by pregnant and breast
feeding women. However, as a responsible nutritional company, we
believe you should seek advice from your doctor on all aspects of
nutrition whilst pregnant.
Can I use Lifestream BowelBiotics+ if I have
diabetes?
Generally, yes. None of the ingredients in Lifestream BowelBiotics+
are absorbed by the body (they stay in the digestive system). The
soluble fibre component may be of benefit to diabetics for several
reasons, one of which is that the sugars in the fibre are not digested.
Diabetics taking Lifestream BowelBiotics+ should discuss this with
their health practitioner as it may play a role in helping to maintain
sugar levels when taken as part of a healthy diet.
We recommend using Lifestream
BowelBiotics+ for kids, a more mild
BowelBiotics+ formula great for
children 4-12years, the elderly
or for very sensitive stomachs.
Have you got the
guts to be healthy?
“Lifestream BowelBiotics+ aloe soothe is a unique and speciallyformulated therapeutic dose of slippery elm, inulin prebiotics,
probiotics and aloe vera to soothe, repair and relieve the
gastrointestinal tract”
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is soothing to the lining of the stomach and intestines and
supports smooth and natural digestion. It helps maintain healthy
intestinal bacteria, assists in healthy functioning of the digestive tract
and naturally supports the immune system. Lifestream aloe vera is
from the gentle inner-gel only and is not a laxative.
Slippery Elm
The inner bark of slippery elm is well known for its effective soothing
and calming effect on the digestive system. The unique mucilage
of slippery elm also provides nutritional and antioxidant benefits to
the stomach and digestive system. Slippery Elm, when mixed with
water, produces a thick gel that coats the mouth, throat, stomach
and intestines with a protective barrier; helping reduce reflux and
indigestion. It also helps soothe irritated tissue.
Prebiotics
Inulin is a gentle soluble fibre which has prebiotic properties.
Prebiotics help increase the number of friendly bacteria in the bowel
which is important for optimum bowel health. Inulin also assists
healthy functioning of the immune system and provides gentle fibre to
assist regular bowel movements.
Probiotics
Probiotics help maintain a favourable balance
of friendly bacteria in the bowel. Lifestream aloe
soothe contains 5 strains of probiotics which include
Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria.
Lifestream aloe soothe is 100% pure
Lifestream aloe soothe is 100% natural, vegetarian
and contains no artificial colourings, flavours,
preservatives, fillers or binders. Just as Mother

Aloe Vera the Plant
Soothe + Digestion
Aloe Vera is an extraordinary plant
and is possibly the most widely used
beautifying plant in history. It looks
like a cactus but actually belongs to
the same lily family as onions and
garlic and grows naturally in tropical
climates like Africa, America, Asia
and parts of Europe. There are
over 280 varieties, but it is the Aloe
barbadensis which has the best
and most clearly researched health
promoting properties. Such properties
have earned aloe vera its reputation
as powerful support for natural and
traditional healing of both the inner
and outer body.

Research – The Scientific Approach
Thousands of benefits from using aloe vera are well
documented. Many doctors around the world have
recommended aloe vera as a support and complementary
product for its beneficial effects. Aloe Vera taken orally may
help with the repair and regeneration of epithelial tissue in the
digestive system, leading to better digestion and absorption
of nutrients. In other words, if your intestines are working at
their best, they will provide you with better nutrition from the
foods you eat.

Blocked and Bloated?
Our digestive systems are amazing things, processing the foods we
eat and expelling the waste we don’t need. But when stress or ill
health hits, as we get older or as a result of today’s highly processed
diets, an optimal digestive system is not something that everyone
enjoys. Natural digestive enzymes in the stomach can start to decline,
making digestion more difficult. When this happens, you can feel
bloated, sluggish and generally uncomfortable. Digestive enzymes
and microflora are essential to help break down and absorb the food
we eat and it is important that you support and maintain them at all
times. Lifestream BowelBiotics+ with Digestive Enzymes is a 100%
natural formula that has a powerful and unique 3-step approach to
maintaining a healthy digestive system - top to bottom!
Lifestream BowelBiotics+ with Digestive Enzymes
This formula is the standard BowelBiotics+ powder with a sprinkling of
natural digestive enzymes for those people who feel they are blockedup and could use a little help digesting their food.

The Healthy Bowel+ Digestion Guide
A healthy body naturally hosts trillions of beneficial bacteria but
today’s lifestyle of stress and poor nutrition can severely compromise
this. Lifestream Advanced Probiotics is a high-potency, broadspectrum probiotic for the entire family. It is designed to offer optimal
digestive function, healthy microflora balance, immune system
support and intestinal comfort.
Lifestream Advanced Probiotics
Bio-Kult is the famous, UK market-leading, best-selling probiotics
supplement formulation by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. She is
a fully qualified medical doctor who specialises in nutrition for those
with digestive, immune and learning disorders. Lifestream Advanced
Probiotics is a unique, 14-strain, multi-species probiotic. Lifestream
Advanced Probiotics is free from all GMO ingredients, gluten, artificial
colours, flavours or preservatives and is suitable for vegetarians.
It supplies a guaranteed, live, beneficial, high-delivery of lactic
acid bacteria (LAB) and Bifidobacteria via freeze-dried and microencapsulated fermented probiotics. There is no need for refrigeration
and it is suitable for all people of all ages.
Scientifically proven to be stable without refrigeration.
Unlike some probiotics, Lifestream Advanced Probiotics is proven
to remain stable in ambient conditions of around 25ºC. This
eliminates the need to refrigerate. Repeated laboratory testing
has demonstrated the 14 strains of probiotic bacteria remain alive
and beneficial throughout our 2-year ambient shelf life. It has been
tested in independent accredited laboratories for long-term viability
in environmentally controlled cabinets, with strict temperature and
humidity conditions.
UK Laboratory Test & Independant NZ Results
Target level at the start of product shelf life = 10 billion
microorganisms per gram (equivalent to 2 billion per capsule)
Accelerated Testing at 40ºC for 6 months = 4.5 billion
microorganisms per gram
Storage for 12 months at 25ºC = 17 billion
This result is well in excess of the minimum level.

But I thought you have to keep probiotics cold?
No, history tells us the truth. About 2,000 years ago, our ancestors
began to integrate naturally fermented foods (rich in probiotics)
into our diets to prevent spoilage, fight infections and protect the
health of the body. Ancient Greek and Roman writings describe
fresh fermented milk (which naturally contains probiotics) combined
with garlic and onion (which naturally contain prebiotics) for treating
intestinal disorders and preventing sickness and disease. This all
happened long before refrigeration.
What else can I eat to feed my probiotic population?
Raw, sprouted or fermented foods are the only food groups that
contain prebiotics and probiotics. Prebiotic-rich foods include
grapefruit, apples, onions and garlic. Probiotic-rich fermented
foods include traditionally made miso, apple cider vinegar, kimchi,
sourdough bread and genuine, living, unprocessed raw yoghurt.

Calming & Circulation
Much more than
just a Spice
If you thought that ginger was no more than
the powdered spice that goes into gingerbread,
or the knobbly root that is used in stir-fries and
cooking, then prepare yourself for a surprise.
Ginger has held an honoured place in traditional
herbal healing since time immemorial, but now
its unique properties are being rediscovered
and confirmed by modern science.
Ginger - one of nature’s most valued herbs
Ginger’s gentle warmth promotes circulation and relaxation, which
make it a wonderful support for a wide range of conditions. It is very
widely used and acts as a tonic to help the normal digestive process.
Ginger is also renowned for its ability to assist the normal digestive
process, helping the normal absorption of foods, nutrients and
medicines in the body. These strengths have been recognised by
physicians and herbalists the entire world over, tapping into the
incredible benefits of this amazing plant.
Ginger’s Role is Unique
– no other herb will substitute
Ginger supports the body’s normal response to the symptoms
of rheumatic and menstrual problems. It is helpful in warming the
lungs and chest against winter ills and chills. It is highly valued in the
sophisticated world of Chinese healing and is used as a main
ingredient in many traditional remedies. The story is basically the
same around the world and at the heart of all traditional medicines;
whenever digestive problems set in, ginger offers great support.
What is it good for?
High Quality Standardised Ginger has been used very successfully
in helping many conditions. Traditional use and scientific research
confirm that ginger:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Is a digestive and circulatory tonic
Helps with the symptoms of nausea and motion sickness
Helps with the symptoms of indigestion, flatulence and stomach
upsets
Brings warmth to the body from the inside out
Supports joint mobility and assists in decreasing muscle
stiffness
Soothes muscles and tendons
Supports maintenance of a healthy circulatory system
www.lifestream.co.nz
In traditional Chinese Medicine, ginger is considered to have
a cleansing and purifying effect, helping to support circulation
throughout the tissues. Ginger is used to help ‘carry’ other remedies
and food into the body by assisting their absorption and distribution
through the bloodstream and into the organs.
The US Food and Drug Administration have classed ginger along
with the safest of herbs, in the Generally Recognised As Safe (GRAS)
category.
Lifestream Bioactive Ginger Syrup
Made from standardised ginger, manuka honey
and apple cider vinegar, this natural syrup is a
wonderful warming, soothing way to experience
the benefits of ginger. Can be taken directly from
the spoon or mixed into hot water to make a
soothing ‘hot toddy’! Great for both adults and
children, this syrup is GE free and contains no
added sugar, preservatives, artificial colours or
flavours.
Nausea and Vomiting
Ginger for motion sickness
Motion Sickness can really stop you enjoying the pleasure of travelling.
Getting on a boat, plane or train for many people can be a very
unpleasant and uncomfortable experience. Motion sickness occurs
when the body is subjected to accelerations of movement in different
directions or under conditions where eye contact with the outside
horizon is lost. Some people seem to be naturally prone to motion
sickness since childhood with symptoms generally consisting of
dizziness, fatigue and nausea, which may progress to vomiting.
Lifestream Bioactive Ginger Capsules
Take 2 capsules with water, one hour before
travelling. Each capsule delivers the equivalent of
1000mg of dried ginger root. Safe for both adults
and children over 5 years, our capsules are made
from pure plant fibre making them suitable for
vegetarians and vegans.

What else can I do?
1. Eat well
In simple terms, this means choosing unprocessed foods such
as seasonal fresh vegetables and fruits, high quality lean proteins
and whole grain carbohydrates (brown rice, oats and whole grain
pasta). Refined carbohydrates (white bread, white pasta, soft drinks,
confectionary, cakes, biscuits, pastry, etc) are limited in nutrients and
may cause fluctuations in blood sugar levels which can result in low
energy levels and headaches.
Avoid overheated and processed fats (fried foods, junk food, all types
of margarine) and instead use cold pressed oils wherever possible.
Locally grown seasonal fruits and vegetables are your best choice
as these will be higher in nutrients. Sourcing local organic produce is
even better. Try to avoid tinned foods and wherever possible, prepare
your own food. Keep it simple - steamed vegetables, fish and soups
are great.
A high intake of fibre from a number of food sources is essential,
such as whole grains, fruit, vegetables, legumes and seeds. Almonds,
flaxseeds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds (soaked overnight)
with fresh fruit make a delicious and nutritious breakfast. Try to ensure
that you eat slowly and chew your food well to help your digestive
system work efficiently.
2. Adequate water and fluid intake
Adequate water intake is vital. Without
adequate fluid, our bodies quickly become
dehydrated and constipated. Water is an
essential component for our internal organs.
If possible, try to cut down or eliminate
alcohol, coffee and black tea altogether.
Herbal teas or green tea are preferable.
Drinking fluids at meal times is not
recommended as this may dilute the digestive
juices. Avoid soft drinks as they are often
high in sugar, phosphoric acid, additives
and artificial sweeteners. Diet soft drinks are not a good option
either as they also include artificial sweeteners and additives. There
is no better choice for liquids than pure, clean water; drink plenty of
water regularly throughout the day. You can also use diluted freshly
squeezed fruit or vegetable juices and herbal/fruit teas to boost your
fluid intake.

Daily exercise is great
for boosting the natural
detoxification process.
Exercise helps increase your
metabolic rate and body heat
to speed up the elimination
of toxins via perspiration. In
the early stages of health
improvement gentle exercise
is recommended, such as
walking, swimming, cycling,
pilates or yoga.
4. Relaxation and
adequate sleep
Help your body to process toxins more efficiently by getting plenty of
sleep. Plan 10 minute quiet periods during the day or simply take time
out to relax and relieve stress. Meditation is also highly beneficial to
lower stress levels.
Clean your insides
Your daily cleanse checklist
Eat fresh raw fruits and vegetables
Drink lots of pure water
Exercise regularly
Get plenty of rest
Take Lifestream Cleanse everyday
HEALTHY BOWEL SUPPORT KIT
Lifestream Cleanse gently removes waste
material, heavy metals and toxins that may
be stored in fat deposits in the body.
5. Proper elimination
If elimination does not occur regularly every 12 hours, toxins and
wastes may start to be reabsorbed back into the body. You can
support proper elimination by ensuring a high-fibre and high-water
intake and remember, regular exercise helps to keep the abdominal
muscles toned.
6. Things to avoid
Stimulants such as nicotine, caffeine, alcohol or recreational drugs
all put an extra burden on the liver and should be avoided. Try to cut
back or give up smoking or recreational drugs completely.
In this case, you may need to seek the advice of your healthcare
practitioner to help with a withdrawal program.
Lifestream Cleanse contains Aloe Vera juice, BowelBiotics+ powder
and Chlorella tablets.
Step A. Aloe Vera juice; take 2 tablespoons in a glass of water, first thing
in the morning and last thing at night (best on an empty stomach).
Step B. BowelBiotics+ powder; take 2 teaspoons mixed well into a large
glass of water, away from meals (can be taken with aloe vera).
Step C. Chlorella mini-tablets; take 5 with breakfast and 5 with lunch.
This can be increased to 10 tablets with each meal if desired.
It is that easy. Remember, you can take more or less
of any of these Lifestream products as suits you.
