PATIENT’S NAME:
MEDICATION: ranitidine hydrochloride (Brand names include Apo-Ranitidine, Zantac, Zantac-C,
Zantac 75, and Zantac EFFERdose.)
WHAT IT'S USED FOR: Ranitidine hydrochloride is used to treat stomach and intestinal ulcers,
gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and other esophageal problems.
HOW TO TAKE IT
Take drug with or without food.
Take once-a-day prescription drug at bedtime.
Dissolve EFFERdose in 6 to 8 ounces of water before taking it.
WARNINGS & PRECAUTIONS!
Contact prescriber immediately if you experience symptoms of hepatitis (such yellowing of eyes or
skin, unusual tiredness, or flu-like symptoms).
Avoid driving and other hazardous activities until you know how the drug affects your concentration
and alertness.
Tell your prescriber if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
SIDE EFFECTS
This drug may cause headache, agitation, anxiety, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal
discomfort or pain, liver problems, hepatitis, and allergic reaction (including rash). Notify your prescriber
of serious or bothersome symptoms.
INTERACTIONS
Ranitidine may interact with various drugs, including amoxicillin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, cefditoren,
cefpodoxime, ceftibuten, delavirdine, enoxacin, itraconazole, and ketoconazole. Tell all prescribers
what drugs you are taking.
Don’t take herbs (especially pennyroyal or yerba maté) without consulting your prescriber.
STORAGE
Store tablets at room temperature in a tightly closed container, away from light and moisture.
DON'T store them in bathroom.
Store EFFERdose tablets and granules at 36o to 86o F (2o to 30o C).
Store syrup at 39o to 77o F (4o to 25o C) in a tightly closed container, away from light.
