PATIENT’S NAME:
MEDICATION: metaxalone (Brand name is Skelaxin.)
WHAT IT’S USED FOR: Metaxalone is used to treat painful muscle and bone conditions.
HOW TO TAKE IT
§ Take drug with a full glass of water, with or without food.
§ Take a missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it’s almost time for the next dose, skip
the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
WARNINGS & PRECAUTIONS!
§ Before taking this drug, tell your prescriber if you have kidney or liver disease or a history of druginduced hemolytic or other anemias.
§ Notify your prescriber immediately if you develop a severe rash, difficulty breathing, unusual
bruising or bleeding, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or unusual tiredness or weakness.
§ Be aware that this drug should be used along with rest, physical therapy, and other measures to
relieve discomfort.
§ Avoid driving and other hazardous activities until you know how this drug affects your concentration
and alertness.
§ Tell your prescriber if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
§ Don’t breastfeed while taking this drug.
SIDE EFFECTS
This drug may cause headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nervousness, irritability, nausea, vomiting,
gastrointestinal upset, serious blood disorder, yellowing of the skin or eyes, skin rash, itching, or
hypersensitivity reactions (including anaphylactoid reaction). Notify your prescriber of all serious or
bothersome symptoms.
INTERACTIONS
§ Metaxalone may interact with other drugs, including barbiturates (such as phenobarbital) and other
central nervous system depressants. Tell all prescribers that you are taking it.
§ Avoid alcohol while taking this drug.
STORAGE
§ Store drug at a controlled room temperature of 59 ° to 86 ° F.
