‘THERE IS NO FEAR IN LOVE’ 1 John 4:18 The fear of Islam is growing among Christians in Britain. Love on its Knees seeks to reduce this fear and increase Christians' love for Muslim people. Jesus commands us to love our neighbours. Love on its Knees is a call to the church to put this into practice by committing to pray for and bless our Muslim neighbours. WHAT IS RAMADAN? Ramadan is the Islamic month of fasting, when many Muslims seek God through fasting and prayer. Every year, testimonies emerge of how Jesus has revealed Himself to Muslims in dreams and visions. For Christians living in the Muslim world, Ramadan can be a difficult time, when they face increased opposition from the Muslim community. WHY SHOULD WE PRAY? There are at least 200 Muslim people groups of over 100,000 people who do not have any Christian witness. Although we may not be able to take the gospel to these people in person, we can reach them through prayer. As Open Doors founder Brother Andrew says, “Our prayers can go where we cannot.” PLEASE PRAY • Ask God to reveal Himself to Muslims as they pray and fast. • Pray that Christians living in Muslim countries would have boldness to share their faith with their Muslim neighbours. • Pray that Muslim-background believers facing particular family pressure will know the peace and presence of God. ISLAM IN BRITAIN There are about 2 million Muslims living in Britain today. As this number grows, so does the fear many British people have about Muslim culture. Cultural misunderstandings and the isolation of some Muslim communities discourage many British Christians from making friends with Muslims. Education is needed to address fear and help build positive relationships in schools, workplaces and neighbourhoods. Source: 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World PLEASE PRAY • Pray against the fear that many British people have of Islam and Muslim culture • Pray that Christians would build genuine friendships with Muslim people and demonstrate Christ’s love in practical ways • Pray that ongoing dialogue between Christian and Muslim leaders in this nation will be fruitful. SAUDI ARABIA • Religious freedom does not exist in this Islamic kingdom. All citizens must adhere to Islam. • All public non-Muslim worship is prohibited. • Those engaging in such activities risk deportation, imprisonment or torture. • The majority of Christians living here are expatriates/foreigners. PLEASE PRAY • Pray that foreign Christians would have wisdom and courage in sharing their faith. • Pray for protection for Saudi believers who must keep their faith secret. • Pray that Saudis living or working outside the country would be exposed to the gospel. AFGHANISTAN In this Islamic republic, pressure on Afghans who leave Islam is strong. Most Christians are secret believers unable even to own a Bible. If exposed, they face reprisals from family, community and the Taleban. In recent months, pressure on Afghan believers has intensified. Many have fled the country or gone into hiding. PLEASE PRAY • Pray for the security of Afghan believers, especially those who remain in the country • Pray for those trying to provide training and resources for this hidden church • Pray that God would establish peace, stability and freedom of religion in this troubled region. SOUTH AFRICA The latest Government census (2001) shows that there are officially just under 700 000 Muslims in South Africa. The number today (2010) is probably higher due to immigrations and new conversions especially in black townships. There are about 700-800 mosques and additional prayer rooms, the so-called Sala Khanas. Muslim people do not only form part of a large business community of shop keepers and traders in South Africa. Six to seven percent of the members of Parliament are Muslims and this figure does not include those who work in Government departments as employees. PLEASE PRAY • Ask God to open the heart of ordinary Christians to see the need for them to engage with Muslims in their daily lives and thus find a way to share their testimonies. • Pray that the Christians in your congregation may have the courage and seize the opportunities to lovingly share their knowledge about Jesus with Muslims. May this include the witness of a holy life, a life that stands out. A PRAYER BY A MUSLIM-BACKGROUND BELIEVER Lord Jesus, I pray for those wonderful and precious souls who are trapped within Islam but who are seeking the truth. You are the good shepherd who goes out after every lost sheep. I ask that you reach every one of these souls through a dream, sign, vision, angel, TV station, book or person. I stand in the gap and pray that every form of spiritual blindness be healed so that the light of the gospel may shine into their hearts and minds.
