The subjunctive is used to discuss
potential or hypothetical events, or
events that are portrayed subjectively.
 The subjunctive mood contrasts with the
indicative mood.
 The indicative mood presents
information as actual, objective facts.

There are two clauses in a
sentence. When the main
clause is a subjunctive
expression, the next clause is in
the subjunctive form.

The subjunctive is used when a subjunctive expression is
used in the main clause. You can identify these
expressions by using the acronym W.E.D.D.I.N.G.


The subjunctive can also be used when an
incomplete action is the main clause.
Incomplete actions describes something that
someone was going to do or thinking about doing.
Incomplete Actions
• A menos que(unless)
• En casa de que(in
case)
• Antes que(before)
• Despues que(after)
• Tan pronto como (as
soon as)
*Remember your stem changing rules still
apply using the subjunctive!!!

There are six verbs whose present tense is irregular.
•Dudo que usted vaya al Perú en
diciembre.
I doubt that you are going to Peru in
December.
•Yo quiero que John vaya el
supermercado
I want John to go to the supermarket.
•Yo quiero que camine a escuela
manana.
I want to walk to school tommorrow.

When the past is used with a subjunctive
action, you use the imperfect subjunctive.
