WARM-UP: A HABITAT GIVES A SPECIES WHAT IT NEEDS TO SURVIVE. FOR EXAMPLE, A FOREST GIVES A BIRD SHELTER FROM BAD WEATHER. NAME TWO OTHER WAYS THAT A HABITAT HELPS A SPECIES. ECOSYSTEMS GRAB A NOTE SHEET AND LET’S REVIEW OUR ECOSYSTEM VOCAB. BIOSPHERE The biosphere is the portion of the Earth that supports life. This includes the top of Earths’s crust (lithosphere), the water on Earth’s surface (hydrosphere), and the atmosphere. ECOSYSTEM An ecosystem is made up of the living and non-living parts of an area. ECOLOGY Ecology is the study of the interactions that occur among organisms and their environments. POPULATION All organisms of a species that live in the same area at the same time. COMMUNITY A community consists of the all the populations in an ecosystem. ORGANISM An organism is any living thing. REVIEW: Make a pyramid that shows the different levels from organism to ecosystem. Select an organism using the classroom resources.
