• Synthesis of of Pt(II) and Pd(II) complexes as Lewis acids, containing new C-, N- and P- based
ligands, to be used in homogeneous catalysis such as epoxidation and isomerization of olefins,
hydration of alkynes, Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of ketones and the catalytic formation of C-C
and/or C-X (X = heteroatom) bonds, in organic and acqueous medium.
• Synthesis and biological activity of Pt(II) and Pd(II)-carbene complexes derived by metalpromoted addition reactions of alcohols, thiols, amines and other protic nucleophiles to
coordinated isocyanides. Investigation of the structure/cytostatic activity relationship of the
resulting complexes either in vitro and in vivo.
• Synthesis and biological activity of Pt(II) complexes derived by metal-promoted addition
reactions of alcohols, thiols, amines and other protic nucleophiles to coordinated organonitriles,
alkyl cyanamides and cyanoguanidine. Investigation of the structure/cytostatic activity
relationship of the resulting complexes either in vitro and in vivo.
• Synthesis and characterisation of new phosphazene materials, either trimers and polymers, bearing
different functional groups able to coordinate metal centers or nucleophilic moieties in order to
prepare supramolecular systems and functionalized metal nanoparticles.
• Synthesis of perfluorinated or partially fluorinated organic and organometallic compounds in
order to prepare supramolecular arrangements. Study of the physical/chemical properties of multiblocks semifluorinated compounds either as small molecules and gas dissolving agents.
• Functionalization of clays to prepare nanocpmposites with advanced properties.
• Functionalization of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles and preparation of nanostructured
innovative composites via melt blending.
• Synthesis of new polymer-based nanostructured membranes containing transition metal
complexes via electrospinning, for the catalytic decomposition of volatile organic compounds.
