The term guerrilla marketing was taken from guerrilla warfare which is a form of unusual warfare. This different advertising style relies mostly on unusual marketing straties and imagination. Guerrilla Marketing is about taking the customer by surprise and making an amazing impression. Guerrilla marketing is said to make a far better impression with customers compared to normal forms of advertising and marketing. This is because most guerrilla marketing campaigns try to hit the consumer at a more personal level. Guerrilla Marketing Strategies • One of it’s tactics is ambush. They intercept encounters in public places. • Another is raids. They go somewhere, quickly put their advertisement in public places and then leave again. • • • • • • The Last one is surprise. They do things that are really creative and eye catching to promote their ideas. Much like guerrilla warfare, guerrilla marketing uses the same sort of tactics in the marketing industry. History of Guerrilla Marketing In 1960, campaigns focused on heavy advertising spending in media channels such as radio. It wasn’t untill the late 1980s and early 1990s that T.V started showing advertising. Eventually advertisement agencies struggled to make an impression on customers who were tired of being marketed to. It was time for a change. In 1984, marketer Jay Conrad Levinson made the term in his book called, Guerrilla Marketing. Small businesses started changing their ways of thinking and approached marketing in a new way.
