PLAY ANALYSIS GUIDELINES Each section of this project is worth 50 points! (total 350) 1. Read the play. This will be done as a group AND individually. a. In class each group will divide out the parts to one another and each will take turns reading different parts as you read the play. b. You will also be given pages of the play to read at home to then discuss with you group the next day in class. c. Your grade for reading the play will be based on participation during the in class reading time as well 2. Play synopsis a. Each person in your group will be given a certain amount of pages to write a detailed synopsis about. Refer to the example given. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0316396/synopsis b. A synopsis should include i. Title of the play ii. Introduce and identify the major characters iii. Explain what they do or experience during the course of the play iv. A wrap up of the outcome of the play c. Guidelines i. 12pt Arial font ii. 1” margins all the way around iii. Double-­‐spaced iv. Must be 1.5 or 2 pages 3. Character Analysis a. Pick one character from the entire play to write a character analysis about. b. Go to the website to print out Character Analysis c. Each person in your group must answer the questions about their chosen character using the character analysis sheet. 4. Costume Project a. Use costume handout to design one costume per student in the group b. Design and color the template according to the proper style and time period c. Be detailed with accessories Theatre 3/4 – Do A through C PLUS – add color watches, texture and detail to your designs. Mush like you would for districts. 5. Prop list a. Create a prop list of needed props for a given set of pages within the script. b. Create 3 columns for the props: In Stock, Borrow/Rent, Purchase Theatre 2 – Do A and B PLUS – Make a list of set dressing items that can be placed on the stage to help create the desired look Theatre 3/4 – Do A and B PLUS – Make a list of stage dressing items PLUS – Make a portfolio of pics that show what the props look like. 6. Group Folder / Presentation a. Going in order, members tell what they learned about this play. b. Then each member shows their costume design and, in detail, describes the character and the costume choices. c. The presentation should intrigue the class to want to read the play. The “story telling” aspect must be engaging and memorable. (No, “Ummm, I don’t know….. stuff) d. Remember you will be enjoying your classmates presentations and you want them to enjoy yours as well. Speak clearly and articulately! Be entertaining, but not distracting. Theatre 3/4 – Do A through E PLUS -­‐ Your group will create a Production budget including costumes, props, sets, publicity etc.
