THEATRE II
Academic Level: 10-12
Prerequisite: Intro to Theatre and/or Audition/Application
Credit: ½, Repeatable
Performing Arts Elective
Theatre II is a unique course where students work together to create a repertory company which
produces performances of plays for public viewing. Members of the company include assistant
director, actors, stage managers, technical crew leaders—props, costumes, make up, set,
lighting/sound and dramaturgy/publicity. Students will be assigned roles and technical positions
based on audition or application. Students study dramaturgy and will read at least on classical piece
of dramatic literature, as well as contemporary pieces. Viewing and critiquing plays, completing a
portfolio and a Mastery Project round out the study of theatre. Mastery projects offer experience in
design concepts as students may choose a play and create detailed set and costume designs. This
course is repeatable and students will produce a different play each semester.
