Reader’s Theatre
The definition of reader’s theatre: Reader’s theatre is minimal theater in support of
literature and reading. There are many styles of reader’s theatre. Usually it is presented in
staged reading format. The actors read from their scripts and use vocal expression to help
the audience understand the story. Reader’s theatre can also take the form of a production.
A work of literature is written in script form and then staged as simply or elaborately as one
chooses. In some cases the scripts are used openly in performance while in other cases the
actors memorize their lines.
