challenge its
meaning

Name Calling
The speaker criticizes a
person/product with little or no
reason or proof
Example:
“Tylenol wears off after only 4 hours.
Advil lasts all day.”
Plain Folks


Appeal to the common, ordinary
people
This tactic is often used by
politicians.
Example: John Edwards and his wife
went to Wendy’s on their wedding
anniversary when he was running for
Vice President.
