 EXAMPLES OF DIAGNOSES SEEN IN ENDOCRINOLOGY/DIABETES Endocrine Clinic: • Adrenal issues • Calcium (high/low) • Delayed/Early puberty • Diabetes Insipidus (high sodium with large volumes of urine) • Growth Hormone Deficiency or Excess • Gynecomastia (breasts in boys) or Breast Discharge • High Cholesterol or Lipid problems • Hormone problems • Hypoglycemia (Low blood sugar) • Lack of Periods (Amenorrhea) or Menstrual problems • Micropenis or small penis • Osteoporosis or osteopenia or multiple bone fractures • Ovarian cyst • Parathyroid problems (high/low) • Pituitary problems (Prolactin or other hormone abnormalities) • Rickets or Vitamin D deficiency • Short stature or poor growth • SIADH (low sodium with small volumes of urine) • Steroid problems (high or low steroid levels, Cushing syndrome) • Thyroid problems (hypo/hyper thyroid, abnormal thyroid lab tests (TSH), goiter) • Turner syndrome • Brain Tumors: Scheduled by Neuroscience clinic and seen in Brain Tumor Clinic by Dr. Patricia Donohoue. • Transgender and Gender Identity Disorder: Must be seen by Dr. Susanne Cabrera or Loretta Bush, APN. • Bone Marrow Transplant: Scheduled and seen in BMT clinic by Dr. Bethany Auble or Colleen McCann, APN. Dysmetabolic Clinic: • Acanthosis nigricans • High cholesterol or dyslipidemia with overweight • Impaired fasting glucose • Impaired glucose tolerance • Insulin resistance • Pre-­‐diabetes Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Clinic: (Female patients ONLY) • Polycystic ovary syndrome, “PCOS” • Hirsutism (excessive body hair in a female) • Excessive Acne in a girl Lipid Clinic: • General diagnoses of high cholesterol, high lipids, and dyslipidemia are to be scheduled either in the Endocrine clinic or Dysmetabolic clinic (routine NEW lipid referrals do not automatically go to lipid clinic). New patients to be seen in lipid clinic must fit criteria for intervention. These LIP NEW slots must be released by endocrinology after review of lab values by the on-­‐call endocrinologist for outpatients. Diabetes Clinic: • Type 1 Diabetes • Type 2 Diabetes •
