What You Will – Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury
Avenue
Tony and Olivier Award winning stage, screen and television
actor Roger Rees returns to the West End in What You Will, playing
for a limited three-week season at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury
Avenue from 18th September 2012.
Monday-Friday and
Thursday Matinee’s
This hysterical (and occasionally historical) 90-minute gallop through
all things Shakespearean is an irreverent one-man everything there is
‘to be or not to be' about William Shakespeare: the greatest soliloquies
ever written along with accounts of the funniest disasters ever
perpetrated on the stage. Juliet's foolish nurse, gory Macbeth, Hamlet,
Richard II, even Charles Dickens, James Thurber, Noel Coward and
Stevie Wonder all make appearances during the evening.
Drawing on his 22 years as a company member of the Royal
Shakespeare Company, celebrated on both sides of the Atlantic for
his performance in the title role of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas
Nickelby, and tackling Hamlet, Benvolio and Claudio amongst other
Shakespearean roles, Rees recounts his experiences of the work of a
theatrical deity. Intercutting stories of cast camaraderie with excerpts
from favourite roles, the show recalls the triumphs, mishaps and
practical jokes his various encounters with the Bard have brought the
classical actor over the years.
Volcano – Noel Coward Theatre
Produced by Bill Kenwright and Thelma Holt, Noel Coward's Volcano,
starring Jenny Seagrove, Dawn Steele, and Jason Durr, will premiere
and play a strictly limited West End run this summer at the Vaudeville
Theatre.
Never performed in the author's lifetime due to the climate at the time,
this is the first major production of a work which gives a fascinating
insight into the glamorous and sometimes scandalous island lifestyle
which Coward himself enjoyed.
Recently widowed Adela Shelly finds herself being seduced by the
suave Guy Littleton, a visitor to her elegant Pacific house on the side
of an island volcano. When Guy's acid-tongued wife Melissa decides
to fly in to see off the competition, she hasn't contemplated that
Adela's best friend, Ellen, might also be falling for her husband... and
as tensions bubble up from under the surface and begin to erupt, so
does the volcano, all with explosive consequences...
Monday to Saturday
evenings 7.30pm,
Wednesday and
Saturday matinees at
2:30pm,
