The National Collaborating Centre for Methods and Tools (NCCMT) is seeking to hire a Research Assistant. This position will provide
specialized knowledge and skills to support a range of projects undertaken by the NCCMT alone, or in collaboration with partners (e.g., the five
other National Collaborating Centres, Health Evidence, regional public health departments, and collaborating researchers at McMaster
University).
The individual must possess an understanding of, and experience in, public health, be able to work in a fluid environment, recognize and apply
which knowledge base and/or skills are required for different situations, and manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities.
The specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Developing and maintaining bibliographic databases using EndNote software;

Performing literature searches (inclusive of grey literature), based on defined search strategies;

Applying critical thinking skills to screen search results, and apply standardized relevance and quality assessment criteria to
resources;

Ensuring that prescribed research methodology is adhered to and that all research materials are handled appropriately according to
ethics requirements;

Ensuring relevant processes are applied to assigned projects (e.g., policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines);

Documenting and tracking decisions related to assigned projects;

Assisting with data collection and management as required;

Data preparation and analysis activities including, but not limited to: coding transcripts, data entry, data cleaning, running basic
statistical tests, using relevant software (e.g., SPSS, NVivo);

Assisting with preparation of scientific papers, reports, and presentations as required (i.e. abstracts, figures and tables, progress
reports);

Facilitating communication and regular correspondence with project teams with respect to project status;

Transcribing and distributing meeting minutes to project team members as necessary;

Identifying and retrieving relevant resources using a variety of methods (electronic retrieval, RACER, library services);

Word processing of routine documents (e.g., correspondence, forms, standard formats), inputting data into existing spreadsheets,
creating new spreadsheets, formatting and graphical layout;

Following workplan timelines, troubleshooting as necessary, alerting appropriate NCCMT team members to situations as they arise;
and

Other duties as assigned.
The Research Assistant will also be responsible for assisting in populating the content of a new knowledge-sharing platform (virtual centre) that
will provide key audiences with information related to infection prevention, management and control for use during an infectious disease
outbreak. The main goal of this new resource is to centrally locate and make easily accessible information that key audiences need to know for
protection should they come in contact with an infectious disease outbreak case.
The successful candidate will possess strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, familiarity with research evidence, and the ability to work
well independently. Experience disseminating and sharing professional information through social media and other online mediums (e.g.,
webinars, online discussion forums) is an asset.
The Research Assistant will possess a Master’s degree in Health Sciences, Public Health, or a related discipline.
The position(s) will begin as soon as possible.
