Public engagement in climate change
Involve is looking for a volunteer to carry out a literature review about the engagement of the public
in climate change, to assist in the development of a fundraising strategy and help to develop projects
in this area.

by delivering high quality public participation processes as well as undertaking research and policy

Job Description
Role

Producing a literature review of the current state of knowledge about the impact of public
engagement on complex issues like climate change

Assisting in the development of a fundraising strategy to develop a project to engage the
public in deeper dialogue about the impact of, and the UK’s response to, climate change
There is the potential that the literature review will be published on Involve’s website if it is of
sufficient quality.
We would also expect the volunteer to support Involve’s core work as required, including; assisting
with bid writing, assisting with other literature reviews and research tasks, assisting with Involve
office and project administration, assisting with the planning and logistics of Involve’s seminars,
conferences and public participation events, assisting with the production of the Involve newsletter
and producing articles and blogs for the Involve website and www.peopleandparticipation.net
website.
The post is voluntary and unpaid and would be suitable for a post graduate looking for part-time
work experience. It offers the chance to work in a dynamic non-profit environment, working
alongside a young team. The role would suit someone with a passion for democracy and public
participation.
Skills, experience and knowledge required
Candidates will have to demonstrate the following skills, experience and knowledge as a minimum:

A Masters in a relevant discipline
A working knowledge of one or more of the following areas: public engagement in policymaking; climate change public policy; social marketing
A proven ability to write clearly, concisely and in an engaging manner
Experience of using one or more relevant research databases

The skills needed for working in a fast paced, dynamic environment
A solid understanding of the debates about climate change and the role of public
engagement in tackling it
Experience of developing a fundraising strategy and project ideas
Experience of writing fundraising bids including budgeting
The ability to manage the content of websites and social media platforms
Experience of writing public blogs, articles and e-newsletters/flyers
Experience working in the voluntary sector
Conditions
2 - 3 days/week minimum for 3 months. Lunch and travel expenses will be covered by Involve.
