Locations – Answer the following questions about important places from Chapter 11:
What place did the Jewish people believe to be the “promised land”? Why? Canaan was
considered the “Promised Land” because according to the Torah, God promised the land of
Canaan to Abraham’s people.
Where did the Israelites move after leaving Canaan? Why did they move there?
The Israelites left Canaan because there was famine. They moved to Egypt.
What location does the word exodus relate to?
In the history of the Israelites, the Exodus was the departure from Egypt.
Where was the Ark of the Covenant kept? The holy city of Jerusalem
Leaders – Answer the following questions about important Jewish leaders?
Where did Abraham leave in order to go to Canaan? He left Mesopotamia to go to Canaan.
Why did God change Abram’s name to Abraham? It was in order to mark their
covenant/agreement that God would protect Abraham’s descendants. The name Abraham
means “father of many.”
What is Moses most known for in the Jewish religion? At Mount Sinai, God gave Moses the Ten
Commandments and told him to take them to the people.
What major accomplishment was David responsible for? He unified the Israelites into a single
nation and provide them with a strong central government.
What major achievement was Solomon best known for? He built the Great Temple of
Jerusalem

Israelites was weakened because it split in to two smaller kingdoms.
Who was Nebuchadrezzer and what event did he cause? Nebuchadrezzer was the ruler of
Babylon who invaded Judah, burned down the Great Temple, and took Jews captive.
After which event did the Jews build the Second Temple? The Second Temple was built after
the Persians conquered Babylon and let the Jews return home.
What event occurred directly after rabbi Yohanan ben Zaccai met with the Roman general?
Yohanen ben Zaccai had himself smuggled out of the city to set up a school in Yavneh
