The Roman Times 120 B.C. Rome, Italy The Two Brothers By: Andrew Pfeiffer There were two brothers named Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus and his younger brother Gaius Sempronius Gracchus. They were both Patricians and they both fought against Carthage. Tiberius was a governor in Spain. He was elected tribune of the Plebeians in 133 B.C. Here is a short speech that Tiberius Gracchus said to the Senate. “My brother and I wanted one thing. That was change for the Plebeians. We demanded that the soldiers and farmers would have their land back and for Rome to be peaceful again. I want laws and farmland changed for the people! Is that so much that I am asking for?” Tiberius wanted to change many laws and land for others, but the Senate vetoed Tiberius’s proposals and laws that he wanted. He also ran for re-election, but lost. Gaius continued and expanded the reform program Gaius did not win his third term for re-election either. Sadly, Tiberius was beaten to death by protestors, and Senators murdered Gaius in a riot in 121 B.C. Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus - Book: World of Eras. Volume 3. By John T. Kirby Class notes
